This week is Queensland Youth Week (QYW), an annual celebration that shines a spotlight on the talents, achievements, and contributions of young people to their communities, our state, and beyond. In this edition, we're excited to highlight local events that provide opportunities for young people to engage in activities promoting their well-being, development, and social inclusion.

Plus, as the school holidays approach, don't miss out on more exciting activities planned for our younger generation in the City of Logan. Youth Shine Event ✨✌️

To celebrate Qld Youth Week (QYW), the Youth Shine Event will be hosting a number of activities to celebrate our youth in Logan.

This exciting event features a variety of activities including UBALL, art, a talent show, volleyball, and more. Don't miss the special performance by DJ Trent. It's a fantastic opportunity for youth to showcase their talents, engage in fun activities, and enjoy a day of entertainment and community spirit.

Volunteer for the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS)

Join MultiLink Community Services in making a difference by volunteering for the ACVVS. This national program, funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care, aims to establish meaningful social connections between individuals in aged care facilities and those approved for a Home Care Package.

Volunteer visits provide friendship and companionship to older adults experiencing social and cultural isolation, enriching both their lives and those of the volunteers.

Have your say - take the QCOSS Community Sector Survey

Do you work or volunteer for a community sector organisation in Queensland?

If so, you are invited to help make the community sector more sustainable by completing the Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS) Community Sector Survey.

This survey aims to capture information on emerging issues in the community services sector. It takes 15-20 minutes to complete and is confidential.

Neighbour Day Connection Postcards

Logan City Council has introduced a new connection postcard to help you connect with your neighbours. Our refreshed version is designed to help you build relationships with those who live close by. Tick the appropriate box or write a friendly note, introduce yourself and leave it in your neighbour's letterbox to start a new connection. It all starts with hello.

Connection postcards are available for collection at Council's Customer Service Centres and Libraries or can be downloaded here.

Cert III Early Childhood Education and Care Program

Kickstart your career in childcare with the Cert III Early Childhood Education and Care program starting this May at Kingston East Neighbour Group (KENG)

Enjoy part-time study combined with 160 hours of hands-on placement at a childcare centre. Best of all, eligible participants can access this nationally accredited training at no cost. The program includes a Blue Card, First Aid/CPR training, and guaranteed work placement, proudly funded by the Queensland Government through its Skilling Queenslanders for Work Initiative

When: 9am to 3:30pm 1 day per week plus 160 hours placement

FREE playgroups and parenting programs

Browns Plains Early Years Centre offers a variety of FREE programs to support families and children in getting the best start in life.

One such program is the Jarjums Playgroup, an inclusive and welcoming space for children aged 0-5 and their families from all cultural backgrounds. This fun playgroup celebrates diversity and promotes learning through Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural teachings. Everyone is invited to join in and learn from these rich cultures, stories, and traditions.

Funding Opportunities

Applications are open now for Exceptional Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants, funded by the Queensland Government.

These grants are available for primary producers, small businesses, and non-profit organisations affected by Tropical Cyclone Alfred and associated severe weather.

Grants of up to $25,000 can be used for clean-up, debris removal, equipment hire, and infrastructure repair. Initial applications can claim up to $5,000, with subsequent applications covering the remaining amount.

Applications are now open for the RACQ Foundation’s Tropical Cyclone Alfred & North Queensland Floods Recovery Grant.

In response to Tropical Cyclone Alfred and North Queensland Floods, a special RACQ Foundation grant round of $500,000 has been opened.

Community groups, charities, sporting clubs, and First Nations Councils can apply for up to $25,000 or $50,000 in extreme cases to support recovery efforts, including material items, community impact, and disaster mitigation.

Applications are now open for the Queensland Arts Showcase Program (QASP) – Round 7.

This program offers funding for arts projects and programs, with up to $70,000 available for one year and up to $150,000 for two years.

The fund supports eligible individuals and organisations to provide high-quality experiences that celebrate local artists and stories and grow the state’s cultural reputation.

Applications are now open for the 100 Women - Investing in Charities that Empower Women and Girls grant round. 

At 100 Women, the mission is to advance the safety, health, education, and economic opportunities of women and girls. This year, grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded to eligible and successful organisations. The level of funding varies each year based on memberships and donations. Please review the guidelines and selection criteria for 2025.
