A Historic Moment for the Amahuaca People of Peru The Amahuaca people number fewer than 1,000 individuals, of whom only 330 speak the Native language. For the first time, thanks to the work of Wilkinson College’s Dr. Pilar Valenzuela, representatives from all the Amahuaca villages gathered in the city of Pucallpa in Peru to assess the status of their Native language and prepare a two-year language revitalization plan. Student Researchers Join Professor's Efforts to Protect Public Officials Wilkinson students and recent graduates are conducting research with Dr. Pete Simi (Sociology) that will be used by the Department of Homeland Security to help alleviate the rising numbers of threats against public officials in the United States. Career Corner: Video Resume - A Trending Fad or the Future? For the majority of students and alumni out there, a video resume seems like a scary prospect. For those who find the job hunt exhausting and are yearning for a new way to stand out, a video resume may be the most creative way yet. The concept of a video resume recently attracted the attention of recruiters through social platforms, and some companies have adopted the idea. The benefit of a video resume is that it can give you a dynamic perspective as a candidate. (pictured) Cintya Felix. From Our Eyes: Summer Research This edition of From Our Eyes features Cintya Felix, a rising sophomore pursuing majors in Political Science and Spanish, who is working full-time this summer as a research assistant at the Socio-Ecological Adaptation & Climate Resilience (SEACR) Lab with Dr. Richelle Tanner (Environmental Science and Policy) on a project funded by the California Sea Grant’s Pathway Inclusive Research Training program. Her experience offers one example of the multiple ways that Wilkinson faculty incorporate students into their funded research projects. Save the Date! Linda Villarosa Linda Villarosa is the author of Under the Skin: The Hidden Toll of Racism on Health in America, which tells the full story of racial health disparities in America, revealing the toll racism takes on individuals and our nation's health.
