Launching 知音 sonicbridge

We are thrilled to share the launch of 知音 sonicbridge, a film series that follows the exchange over 6 months between Melbourne based musical duo The Merindas and Shii, an emerging electronic music artist based in Wuhan, China. The artists have generously and candidly shared their experiences and stories, developing a dialogue around their creative lives.

知音 sonicbridge re-imagines cultural diplomacy, people to people links and industry development through the exchange of Australian and Chinese experimental and cutting edge music cultures and practices in a digital era.

We hope these videos will provide an insight into the music cultures and industries in both Australia and China and deepen connections between artists in both countries. More episodes will be released over the next week, stay tuned! Visit https://sonicbridge.net to find out more.

We want to thank all the incredible creatives and organisations from both Australia and China – Kristel Kickett and Candice Lorrae of The Merindas, Shiyi Xiang of Shii, August MGMT, Merrie Records, Fred Leone, Nevin Domer, Mat Spisbah, PRIDE Productions, Subtropical Asia, and the Australian Embassy in Beijing.

知音 sonicbridge was initiated by Monash University and Asialink Arts with support from the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Australian Cultural Diplomacy Grant Program.
