Parent Meetings

Please use this link -https://thesource.school21.org.uk/Parents/Booking/Code?Length=7 to book your parent meeting slot. You will need your child's unique 4 digit code which you used last term. If you need to get this again, please ask your class teacher. Remember to keep this safe as you will need it every term!

Bookings will close at 12pm on the day of the meetings so teachers can prepare books ready for the evening, so please make sure you book before this time.

Please use Ms Silver for Mandela and Ms Enabulele for Edison, even though currently they have their placement teachers.

Reminder

Please do not allow your child to bring toys or games to school, as this can lead to items being lost or damaged and students getting upset.

Mrs Drummond's Challenge

Well done to the huge amount of students who completed last week's challenge - it really put your problem solving minds to the test! This week's challenge might be solved through using a 'carroll' diagram! https://www.theschoolrun.com/what-is-a-carroll-diagram

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you to those who have registered with the Easy Fundraising platform, the donations have already started to come in!

For those who haven’t, this platform allows us to turn everyday online shopping into donations for the school which can then be spent on equipment and facilities. If you haven’t registered yet and are happy to help (at no cost to you!), we ask that you do two things:

1. Sign up to Easy Fundraising and register School 21 as your cause of choice here: https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/invite/GO6EW2/
(We get a £5 donation for every person that signs up via that link!).

2. Install the donation reminder on your computer: https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/donation-reminder/
This is a totally unobtrusive button that sits on your internet bar, and pops up with a subtle reminder every time you shop with a retailer that donates to us.

Finally, please share with any family and friends.

Thanks so much

Spare Clothes

If your child has borrowed any clothes from our spare clothes box please bring them back as soon as possible as we have very little left. (eg if they have wet themselves)

If you have any trousers, skirts or tights that you could donate that would be wonderful.

Also if you would like to donate new children’s underwear that would be amazing.

Speaking Like an Astronaut

This week in Reception, we filmed the second draft of our videos which tell the audience all about a planet. We first planned what we were going to say by writing it down in a speech bubble, then practiced many times with our friends. We remembered to speak clearly and loudly, used our hands to tell about a planet, and faced forward. We will continue practising and critiquing our videos in the next few weeks.

Year 1 - Cave Painting Fun!

This week in Year 1 we begun our new project, all around the Stone Age and cave painting. To immerse ourselves into this new topic, we turned the classroom into a cave and made cave paintings from some special memories. We had so much fun creating our paintings and listening to each others' stories!

London in 1940

In Year 2 we have continued our project learning about WW2. Our enquiry question is 'How did World War Two affect ordinary people?' On Tuesday we learnt about how Newham was affected by the war and what streets that were bombed look like now. We compared photographs of Newham in the Blitz and modern photographs and explained the differences. We also learnt about buildings that were not bombed, like the National Portrait Gallery and the Natural History Museum.

Heroic Efforts!

In storytelling at the moment, year 4 are focusing on biography writing. We have done a lot of work on empathising with characters and writing from others perspectives already this half term, so to focus on more factual writing makes a nice change!

In support of this, we have been researching information for our chosen people, working in groups and considering which questions we need to ask in order to get the correct information. In our assemblies and class discussions we have looked in detail at people that are admired and thought hard about what it takes to be a hero.

This will continue into next week as we start to learn about heroes during the time of the slave trade in our project lessons.

Last term Year 4s learnt the story of Little Red Riding Hood in Spanish. It was challenging to remember the whole story solely based on actions and despite lots of new words. But they all took up the challenge and showed amazing capacity to retell the story from memory, with no other support than their actions. Well done to all Year 4s for showing openness, excellence and great responsibility!
