Program Recap: Great Times at Great Programs!

Members and volunteers really love our Dutch Treat Lunches, and the August lunch was no different. We had a terrific turnout and dined deliciously at Di Prato's!

Later in the month, we had to cancel our social hour due to Idalia's downpour; our Program Committee will reschedule that get-together in the future. But, nothing could dampen the engaging program we hosted with local author Carla Damron! We obviously have a network full of readers because this novelist packed the house! Our members, volunteers, and guests enjoyed the opportunity to hear about her creative process and to educate themselves about the issue of human trafficking. We can see why her newest book, The Orchid Tattoo, has already received so many awards!

We are looking forward to more opportunities to get to know one another better and learn something new at our future programs. Hope to see you there!

Happy Fall, Y'all! Hear Rudy Mancke's Presentation about Autumn! (Sept. 19)

At the beginning of each season of the year, Rudy Mancke, the former co-host of SCETV's Nature Notes, talks about interesting aspects of the upcoming season. While we don’t know what plants or animals Mr. Mancke might talk about this Fall, we know it will be entertaining and educational. These talks are held outdoors in front of USC's McKissick Museum, weather permitting.

"The Nature of Fall" is scheduled for Tuesday, September 19 at noon. Since parking is a challenge around campus, let’s plan to meet at St. John’s at 11:15 a.m. and carpool to McKissick. Guests are welcome! Please let us know if you can attend and/or need a ride by Friday, September 15 so we can coordinate the carpools. You can RSVP to The FriendShip office by calling 803-602-6434 or by emailing contact@thefriendship.org.

Learn about Preventing Falls with Dr. Krotish!

Dr. Debra Krotish, a former assistant professor in the USC School of Medicine, will talk with us about preventing falls on Wednesday, September 27 at 2:00 p.m. Dr. Krotish has been studying geriatrics for most of her academic career, focusing on the estimated 95 percent of seniors over the age of 75 who want to remain in their own homes as long as possible.

Preventing falls is an important factor for aging in place. One in three adults over age 65 experiences a fall. In fact, falls are the leading cause of injury and death for seniors. Please join members, volunteers, and guests to hear about this important and potentially life saving topic. The program will take place in the Dining Room at St. John's, and guests are welcome! RSVPs are not required but are appreciated. Please contact The FriendShip office at 803-602-6434 or contact@thefriendship.org by Monday, September 25 to let us know you can attend or if you need a ride.
