Updates from the Northern Alberta Medical Program

A Word of Appreciation

As you’re aware, the Northern Alberta Medical Program (NAMP) is set to welcome 30 students this August into their first year. As the Manager of the Medical Education Expansion, and an alumnus of both the University of Alberta and Northwestern Polytechnic, I am thrilled to be a part of this collaborative effort between the two institutions. Together, we aim to make medical education history in Grande Prairie and Northern Alberta.

Preparing for the arrival of our first cohort of students is a collaborative effort. As we navigate through all the logistics required, we consistently draw upon the expertise and knowledge of our partners, both internal to the University of Alberta and external within our broader community and partner institution, Northwestern Polytechnic. We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support and willingness of everyone to contribute and do whatever it takes to ensure our success.

As I reflect on the past 11 months, I am filled with pride and recognition of the significant accomplishments we have already achieved. While we acknowledge that there is still much work to be done, with the growing team at the NAMP, we are confident that we have the necessary resources and capabilities to overcome any challenges that may arise.

Asclepius Summer Camp

Do you have an aspiring young person in grade 9-12 that is interested in the medical field? The Asclepius summer camp may be of interest to them. The Asclepius Medical Camp for Youth was founded in 2009 by University of Alberta medical students as an initiative to increase enrolment of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds in medical school.

Registration is now open for both the Edmonton (July 7 - 11) and Grande Prairie (July 22 - 25, 2025) camps.
