Throwback Thursday Pemberton Street, Strathfield, 1947 This photo taken by Milton Kent shows the construction of Pemberton Street, Strathfield in 1947. The work was funded by a special government loan to Strathfield Council of £34,000 for road and drain building. Pemberton Street was first subdivided in 1916 as part of the Flemington Heights Estate by the Intercolonial Investment Land & Building Co. This included the section on the eastern side of the road between Arthur Street and Shortland Avenue. Further subdivision – of the western side of the road - took place in 1920, however valuation lists show that by 1924 only 13 cottages had been built. Image: Pemberton Street roadworks, 1947.
