Cr Benjamin Cai, Mayor of Strathfield

Dear Residents,

I would like to begin my first message by thanking everyone who placed their trust in me by electing me to be a representative of our community. It is a great privilege to serve as Mayor and a responsibility I do not take lightly. I look forward to maintaining a direct line of communication and discussing local matters with members of our community as we continue to work together to make Strathfield a wonderful place to live, work and visit.

I was delighted to attend the official opening of the Ironbark Gallery's new exhibition AI – Artist’s Impressions: Oscar Garcia last Thursday. Be sure to view this impressive body of work which showcases Burwood, Strathfield and their surrounds before the exhibition ends on 30 November 2025.

If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.bcai@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999.

Strathfield War Memorial’s Centenary

During World War I, the names of those enlisting for service were recorded by Strathfield Council. After the war, plans were made for a more lasting war memorial. This was finally unveiled by the Governor of NSW, Sir Dudley de Chair, at a solemn ceremony on 11 October 1925. Members of the 4th Battalion provided a guard of honour. The design, by Messrs. Wilson, Neave, and Berry, comprised a bronze sphere, representing the world, surmounting a trachyte pedestal. The names of 350 soldiers from the Strathfield district are inscribed on two large plaques on the wall of the council chambers.
