International Men's Day 2024The theme for International Men's Day 2024 is "Men's Health Champions" and aims to shine a spotlight on both the problems of men’s health and the people delivering the solutions. The City of Logan has many resources and support hotlines as well as men's programs and groups to support men of all ages and backgrounds. Community StoriesFrom Stroke to Strength - Steve's StoryFollowing a stroke, Logan resident, Steve Martin, has attributed his significant cognitive and physical recovery to playing walking football, a low-impact, slower-paced version of football/soccer. His journey is a testament to the transformative power of staying active and getting involved in the community. Walking football is part of the Active & Healthy program, which offers free and low-cost activities for the Logan community. Monday, November 11 marks the anniversary of the armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War 1. Every year at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, millions around the world pause in silence to remember the sacrifices many have made so we can enjoy life today. Great Mates presents The Men's ExpoThe Kingston East Neighbourhood Group is excited to host our first Men's Expo, for International Men's Day. Come down to Tudor Park for a day of celebration. This is a free event, and will include food, stalls set up by local men's organisations, activities for men, and some speakers! When: Tuesday 19 November, from 9am to 1pm Logan Healthy LivingLogan Healthy Living offers practical support for a life that is not limited by diabetes, obesity and related diagnosis. Managing diabetes can feel overwhelming, join us and Denis Giguere, Clinic & Operations Manager from Logan Healthy Living for information on healthy living and eating. The session aims to provide people with practical information, in relation to diabetes support. When: Wednesday 6 November at 10am Community ProgramsAfter Dark Boxing for Youth 🥊Youth aged 11-18 years are invited to Logan PCYC every Thursday for a FREE After Dark Boxing session. After Dark Boxing is for beginners and run by local police officers. Join in, get active and have fun. FREE sausage sizzle after. When: every Thursday, 6pm to 7pm Strong Swimming in Multicultural CommunitiesAustralia's many rivers, lakes, and oceans make swimming an essential skill. Strong Swimming in Multicultural Communities offers free weekly lessons for adults 18+ from multicultural backgrounds, including new migrants and refugees. Learn water safety, strokes, and earn an Australian swimming certificate. Build confidence, make friends, and enjoy swimming as exercise and sport. It's never too late to learn! With guest speakers from the Community & Stakeholder Education & Engagement Team, Office of Fair Trading, this free workshop will be of great value for youth looking to purchase their first car! When: Friday 6 December, 2pm to 4pm Fun & Fit Over 50!Fun & Fit over 50 will bring you a fun movement program and social opportunity aiming to help improve your mobility, strength and coordination. You will need a water bottle, small towel and wear nice comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. When: Every Thursday 9:30am to 10:30am Opportunities and ResourcesVolunteer Forum - Expressions of InterestMultiLink Community Services' upcoming 2024 Volunteer Forum will engage community members interested in volunteering and connect them with volunteer opportunities available within different services and industries. There will be a limited number of stalls available. You are encouraged to register your interest early to avoid missing out! When: 3 December, 10am to 3pm Australia Day Awards 2025: Nominations Open The City of Logan Australia Day Awards celebrates the achievements and contributions of extraordinary Logan citizens. These community members inspire us and challenge us to make our own contribution to creating a better city. The following are presented at the awards to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the local community over a number of years.
Nominations close Tuesday 26 November 2024. Logan Early Warning AppWith severe weather events on the rise, it’s more important than ever to stay prepared! Be warned before a disaster strikes with the Logan Early Warning service. Get alerts for potentially dangerous weather, bushfires, planned burns and floods within Logan straight to your phone or email today. You can download the Logan Early Warning app from the Apple App store, Google Play store, or simply register online for alerts. Funding opportunitiesApplications are now open for the Tertiary Education Fund. Logan City Council and some of the most respected organisations in South-East Queensland have combined their resources to provide financial assistance to young people in Logan who wish to undertake tertiary studies. Students from families with limited financial resources are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants receive a $5,000 bursary in instalments for each semester, or trimester, of a three-year course. Nominations are now open for the Nespresso Care for You Fund. This is Nespresso's first community-driven, charity donation initiative to launch here in Australia and New Zealand. Over the next 12 months, the fund will donate a total of AUD $75k to local charities, all of which will be nominated and voted on by you, their community of coffee lovers.
Nominations close: 15 December 2024 Applications are now open for social enterprises to apply for a Social Enterprise Development Initiative (SEDI) Capability Building Grant of up to $120,000. SEDI aims to support social enterprises to be more efficient and effective. It helps them to deliver social benefits to vulnerable Australians. Applications close: December 2025 Strengthening Multicultural Queensland (SMQ) program Multicultural Affairs Queensland (MAQ) administers the SMQ program as an annual, open competitive grants program. It provides funding for multicultural projects and events that engage culturally and linguistically diverse communities, groups, individuals, and the broader community, fostering partnerships and contributing to building an inclusive, harmonious, and united Queensland. The 2024-25 funding round for multicultural projects is now open. Eligible applicants can apply for one-off funding of up to $100,000 for projects to be delivered from 1 July 2025 across a two-year period to 30 June 2027.
