College seeking volunteers for the Conference Planning Working Group
The College is looking for applicants for the Conference Planning Working Group, the committee responsible for organizing the 2027 Annual Conference in Penticton, April 7-9.
The College's annual conference is a key communication tool for advancing registrants' understanding of the profession and what it means to be a regulated professional. It also provides valuable opportunities for networking.The Conference Planning Working Group will develop engaging conference content and help ensure a valuable experience for attendees.
Further requirements, duties and responsibilities are listed in the Conference Planning Working Group terms of reference.
To apply, please complete the Volunteer Application form on the College's website by 11:59pm on Thursday, July 31, 2026.
Registrants can claim continuing professional development (CPD) points for participating on a College committee or other working group. If you have any questions about applying, please contact College Manager of Executive Operations and Communications Tory Davis.

New issue of College Matters published
The issue explores the theme Applied Biology in Changing Times. Featured articles examine feral pig management in British Columbia, the interaction between bats and wind energy development, the Province's Cumulative Effects Framework, environmental assessment practices in British Columbia and Yukon, and the integration of Inuit Knowledge into development initiatives in the Grays Bay region of Nunavut.
The issue also announces the release of the draft Wetland Identification and Delineation Manual, which is open for feedback and submissions of supporting photographs.
In addition, readers are introduced to Laura Plante, the new Chief Executive Officer of the College of Applied Biologists, along with two newly elected Board members and a new staff member.
The issue includes a summary of highlights from the 2026 Annual Conference, held in Victoria in April.

New Credentialing Standard checklists
The College launched the new Credentialing Standard in June 2026, to improve application efficiency and to remove unnecessary barriers to registration while maintaining appropriate rigour.
To support applicants, application checklists are available on the College's website to help individuals identify the appropriate application category and ensure they meet the requirements and required documentation for a complete application.

Regulatory Updates and Other Resource Information
Planting 125 million more trees in B.C.
From the Government of BC - The Province is investing $155 million toward reforestation programs to plant more than 125 million trees throughout British Columbia. The funding, which also includes investments from the federal government, will deliver both large-scale reforestation and targeted projects that restore critical habitats, conserve biodiversity and support wildfire recovery.
Supporting coastal marine health in B.C. with new stewardship projects: More First Nations led projects further B.C.’s first-ever Coastal Marine Strategy
From the Government of BC - More than 20 new projects are underway to support coastal economies and help keep B.C.’s coastal marine ecosystems healthy, including innovative solutions, such as kelp restoration and monitoring using AI technology and survey work using submersible remotely operated vehicles.
Canada launches Forest Sector Action Plan
From the Government of Canada - On June 4, the Honourable Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced a Forest Sector Action Plan, with key commitments to drive the transformation of the forest sector in collaboration with provinces, territories, Indigenous Peoples and other key partners.
Canada launches mission to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in the North Pacific Ocean
From the Government of Canada - On June 9, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) launched its fourth annual high seas patrol to detect and deter illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing in the North Pacific Ocean.
World Environment Day: Statement from the Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature
From the Government of Canada - On June 5, the Minister stated, "“Today we celebrate World Environment Day, a day that reminds us that the choices we make now shape the planet we leave to future generations. Our environment, our economy, and the systems that sustain them are deeply interconnected and depend on the decisions we make individually and collectively. As we work to build a stronger Canada, we know that protecting nature, strengthening our communities, and growing a clean, resilient economy are intertwined. By investing in sustainable solutions today, we are creating good jobs, supporting Canadian competitiveness, and ensuring a healthier, more prosperous future for generations to come."
