Featured Publication - Biosecurity

SPP-ARC members teamed up with investigators from the National Microbiology Laboratory to study possible treatments against a security sensitive virus. Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) is a segmented, single-stranded, negative-sense RNA virus that belongs to the family Nairoviridae. The virus is endemic in Europe, Africa and Asia and causes severe human disease with high case fatality rates. For these reasons, CCHFV is widely considered a priority pathogen that represents a significant biosecurity concern. CCFHV research is required to develop effective medical countermeasures. This study provides evidence to support the development of mutagenic nucleotides as antiviral drugs for the treatment of CCHFV infection.
