  • Chloe Shovelar, 12, Mentone Girls' Secondary College, Mentone

A field of strong entries left our executive officer Kathryn Izzard little choice but to recommend seven finalists instead of six!

"We are delighted with the impressive entries. Our judges, as talented and decorated as they are, face a tough job. Congratulations to the finalists," she said.

The finalists go to the last round: face-to-face interviews at Melbourne Town Hall on 20 August, where the overall winner is chosen.

The competition, in its sixth year thanks to 13cabs, is free and tailored to educate students about Melbourne, instill civic pride, to show how we got here and the journey since being founded in 1835 — 183 years ago on 30 August.
