Strathfield eNews No images? Click here 4 May 2023Cr Karen Pensabene, Mayor of Strathfield Dear Residents Council hosted a number of successful events late last week starting with Youth Week on Thursday 27 April at Strathfield Library. 71 students from Australian International Academy engaged with 15 stallholders representing education, volunteer, career and information pathways. Students participated in 3 workshops to develop their skills in car maintenance, digital storytelling and resume writing. Council’s Community Development team executed this event together with the Strathfield Collaborative Youth Group. That evening was the opening of the Multi-Cultural Strathfield Festival with over 35,000 people attending from 27 to 29 April. I’d like to thank everyone who joined us to enjoy local culture through music, food and dance. Saturday night saw Strathfield Square come to life in a way we had never seen before. If you were unable to attend the Festival this year, don't miss the next one in early 2024. I would also wish to acknowledge Cr Matthew Blackmore and all the Councillors for their support and help with the organisation of a very successful event. I also had the opportunity to visit and meet the Principals of Chalmers Road School, Meriden School, Santa Sabina College, St Patrick’s College and ACU this week. It was a wonderful opportunity to tour their school/campus grounds. Each school have a vision for their school community, and all are currently building modern up to date facilities for their campuses. It was an honour to thank all students with a certificate for entering the ANZAC Day poetry competition and encouraging the next years students to be part of the ANZAC Day ceremony. Residents, did you know there’s a Strathfield-Homebush District Historical Society? They have a website rich with information on our local history and also encourage donations of information, photographs and newspaper clippings that support the Society’s collection. I encourage residents to check out their website and keep an eye for upcoming historical talks in our area. As always, if you require help with Council issues, please contact me on cr.kpensabene@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or my office on 9748 9924.
