Dear Residents, Thank you so much to everyone who joined as at our Battle of Kapyong and Anzac Day Memorial Services last week. They were truly special events and it was wonderful to see so many residents of different ages and heritages coming together with a common purpose. THROWBACK THURSDAY Lord Allenby receiving an address at Strathfield Station from Jean Cameron of Balmoral Beach Junior Red Cross. The Sun 18 January 1926 p.16 Lord Allenby and the Junior Red Cross When celebrated British Field Marshal, Viscount Allenby and his wife visited Australia during January 1926, their first brief stop in Sydney was in Strathfield where they were welcomed at the station by members of the Junior Red Cross. These included members of the Flannel Flower branch of Enfield. Jean Cameron from Balmoral read an address on behalf of all JRC branches. Members learned first aid and home nursing skills and raised money to support the children of soldiers and convalescent homes. During May 1926 a gymkhana was held in the grounds of Keira in the Boulevarde, hosted by Miss O’Brien.
