Dear Residents,

Thank you so much to everyone who joined as at our Battle of Kapyong and Anzac Day Memorial Services last week. They were truly special events and it was wonderful to see so many residents of different ages and heritages coming together with a common purpose. A special thank you also to Matt Jones and the Cumberland RSL Sub-branch for hosting the events.

May is shaping up to be a festive time and it is all happening in Homebush Town Centre! Homebush Village Markets kicks off on Saturday 2nd May from 4 - 9pm. The Markets will feature a curated selection of food, produce and artisan stalls enhancing the already amazing local offerings available in Homebush Village. This event is a trial, should it be successful, Council will consider hosting other market events. So come along and let us know what you think!

Strathfield Council has been investing in the safety of our residents with new and upgraded shared pedestrian and bike crossings. You can see them at Pomeroy St, Homebush; Fraser St, Strathfield; and Hedges Avenue, Strathfield. These shared crossings are along the bay-to-bay route, making crossing points safer for cyclists, walkers and drivers.

If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.bcai@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999.

Cr Benjamin Cai, Mayor of Strathfield

Lord Allenby and the Junior Red Cross

When celebrated British Field Marshal, Viscount Allenby and his wife visited Australia during January 1926, their first brief stop in Sydney was in Strathfield where they were welcomed at the station by members of the Junior Red Cross. These included members of the Flannel Flower branch of Enfield. Jean Cameron from Balmoral read an address on behalf of all JRC branches. Members learned first aid and home nursing skills and raised money to support the children of soldiers and convalescent homes. During May 1926 a gymkhana was held in the grounds of Keira in the Boulevarde, hosted by Miss O’Brien.
