![]() Technology Enhanced Learning NewsJuly 2025 A message from Dr Neil Ralph, Deputy Director of Technology Enhanced LearningWelcome to the latest issue of TEL News. As the summer holiday period is now upon us, I hope you all take some time to rest and relax after what has been a busy spring time. The recent launch of the Government's ambitious 10 Year Health Plan: Fit for the Future, has highlighted the important role that technology will play in improving the patient experience and also how it can be used to improve education for our NHS Professionals. There is a big job ahead of us to work out how we can deliver these changes, but I know that as a team we are innovators and many of our programmes are already using technology to enhance health and care education, so for us its time to show what we can do. ![]() Workstream UpdatesSimulation and Immersive Technologies New Education CommunitiesThe Virtual Reality in Education (VRE) community has been renamed Extended Reality in Education (XRE), reflecting a broadened focus on immersive technologies and a new programme of speakers who will share their work across the wider XR landscape. This month, Daniel Scott-Purdy and Godson Uma from the University of Nottingham presented their work on VR wall suites and in September, Shradda Sharma from Cambridge and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust will showcase VR360 Rapid Tranq, highlighting the role of immersive technology in rapid tranquillisation training. The Digital Innovation in Health and Care Education (DIHCE) community was relaunched in June and featured sessions on the use of XR in mental health education and presentations from suppliers working in this field. The series will continue on a monthly basis, exploring future-facing technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, Extended Reality, and related innovations. All are welcome to join our communities, if you have not enrolled yet, please complete the registration form. If you would like to present on a relevant topic, please contact the team at: england.simimmtech@nhs.net Becoming Simulation Faculty (BSF) Pilot workshops completedThe Becoming Simulation Faculty have completed the implementation of workshop pilots for their core course. In meeting this milestone the team has delivered 42 individual workshops to over 600 workshop participants as well as supporting 120 local facilitators to deliver face-to-face workshops across the regions to consolidate the online learning. The staggered delivery model across the regions enabled the project team to repeat the workshop design, staying true to the vision of producing a ‘best in class’ resource that has been designed by and for the simulation community. Feedback from the workshops has been very encouraging with 9 out of 10 attendees saying they would recommend the course to a colleague. More than 25 workshops have been booked in for the next few months across the country. If you would like to attend a workshop, please complete the core eLearning topics then log in to the Learning Hub to view workshop dates and book your place. ![]() RCN Prison Nursing - The History of Art in PrisonsOn 10 July the Simulation and Immersive Technologies team returned to the Royal College of Nursing Library and Museum to support The History of Art in Prisons event, which is part of their RCN ‘Prison Nursing Unlocked' exhibition. The platforms team remains focused on delivering high-standard live services, to over 1 million colleagues in health and social care roles. This includes maintaining access to content through our platforms, AICC and ESR links. Exciting developments support the growth of the Learning Hub as a unified platform. Incorporating the functionality of a Learning Management System will enable remaining content from the elearning for healthcare (elfh) Hub to be available in the Learning Hub, including statutory and mandatory training. Our TEL platforms are free to use and are designed to meet differing training needs. Digital Learning SolutionsDigital skills and basic digital literacy training can be found on the Digital Learning Solutions (DLS) platform. Digital competency frameworks and assessment tools are also located on DLS. In line with the 10 Year Plan, the platform team continues to develop and iterate the Competency Framework Service to support skills escalators. The Competency Framework Service is being used across the UK with the following national frameworks utilising the service. Our work towards the unified platform will bring together the functionality of the Learning Management System and Competency Framework Service to provide a single national offering for the NHS, social care and beyond.
