Women worldwide continue to face shockingly high levels of violence. WHO new estimates launched in 2021 March show that almost 1 in 3 women worldwide have experienced physical and / or sexual violence, mostly by an intimate partner. During humanitarian emergencies, the risk of these and other forms of gender-based violence (GBV) increases due to mass displacement and the breakdown of social protections. This is unacceptable. The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. The Global Health Cluster engages with this campaign and is committed to strengthening the capacity of health partners to coordinate and deliver health services for GBV survivors.RESOURCESLearn more about useful resources for healthcare providers and those working across the healthcare system to ensure health service access for survivors of GBV in humanitarian settings.
