COMMUNITY UPDATE

Update from Citizen of the Year – Mr. Akhil Verma

How quickly the year has flown! It feels like only yesterday I was standing on stage in January, plaque in hand, doing my best to look calm while my nerves told a very different story. Yet here we are, already heading into the final quarter of 2025. Time really does move fast when you’re part of a community as dynamic, supportive, and welcoming as Strathfield.

A real highlight of my journey so far has been joining the Strathfield Multicultural Advisory Committee. It has been both enriching and rewarding. Picture a table where every seat brings a fresh perspective, a new idea, and a shared drive to make Strathfield an even more inclusive, multicultural place. That’s us in action. The creativity, commitment, and energy in this group are inspiring. Together, we’re working on initiatives that celebrate diversity, foster inclusivity, and make sure everyone feels they belong. It’s a reminder that our greatest strength is in our mix – many voices, many flavours, one community.

I would also like to kindly remind the community that nominations are now open for the 2026 Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year. This is our chance to recognise the quiet achievers, tireless volunteers, and community champions whose work often goes unnoticed but makes Strathfield the special place it is.

As I reflect on the year so far, I feel immense gratitude for the privilege of serving in this role. Being Citizen of the Year is more than a title – it’s a responsibility, a connection, and an opportunity to help build something meaningful together. So let’s celebrate, let’s nominate, and let’s keep Strathfield shining bright. Who knows – next year, the spotlight could be on you.

Warmest regards,
Akhil Verma
