Welcome to this fortnight's edition of Connecting our Community! We begin with a spotlight on International Men's Day, held on 19 November every year and marked across 80 countries worldwide. Be sure to read our Community Story below for information about Logan events planned, plus local services and activities that support men and boys of all ages and backgrounds. International Men's Day 2025Supporting Men and Boys - a timely reminder In Australia, International Men’s Day is a chance to join a global conversation about manhood, masculinity, and men’s issues. The 2025 theme Supporting Men and Boys, highlights social issues that affect men and boys, from challenges at school to struggling with their mental health. It’s a timely reminder to check in on a mate, reach out to family, or guide a young person who needs support. Community StoryMen’s Day 2025 – celebrating Logan men and boys Logan will light up for International Men’s Day on Wednesday, 19 November, to highlight some of the social issues that men and boys face, as well as celebrate them in all their diversity. The team at Our Logan have shared event details, plus helpful links to organisations that offer support and connection for men and boys in our community all year round.
Opportunities and ResourcesSocial Enterprise Network Logan Breakfast All Logan-based social enterprises, entrepreneurs and interested community members are invited to a breakfast event to reconnect and explore the revival of the Social Enterprise Network of Logan (SENL). It's a great opportunity to share ideas, build partnerships, and help shape a strong network for the future. Pacific Engagement Visa Employer Webinar The Department of Home Affairs' Business Industry and Regional Outreach (BIRO) network invites employers to an online session to learn about the Pacific Engagement Visa (PEV), a permanent residence visa for eligible citizens of Pacific countries and Timor-Leste. The webinar will explain the ballot process, employment requirements, and how businesses can hire PEV holders. This is a great opportunity to understand the program and its benefits for employers. Co-Design Workshop for families of people with disability Community Resource Unit (CRU) is hosting an interactive workshop in Logan to empower families and people with lived experience of disability to become co-designers. Learn what co-design is, why it matters, and build the confidence and skills to contribute to shaping an inclusive future. Facilitated by passionate CRU team members, this event offers practical insights and connection. When: Thursday 13 November 2025, 9:30am to 4pm
Australian Citizenship information session - Yarrabilba Are you a New Zealand citizen living in the Yarrabilba community, and thinking about applying for Australian citizenship? The Buzz @ Yarrabilba invites you to a friendly, informative workshop with Vicky Rose. Learn about eligibility, understand the application process, and have your questions answered. It’s a great chance to connect with others on the same journey and feel confident about your next steps. Light refreshments provided. Registration is required. Disability Action Week 2025 – share your events Disability Action Week runs from 23-30 November, celebrating the theme Communicate. Connect. Create. Council is inviting community service providers to share the activities, events, or initiatives you have planned for this week. Submissions received before 17 November will be included in a PDF guide published on Council’s website, helping our community discover and join local celebrations. Community EventsFree screening of Seen – a film for parents and carers As part of the Central Logan 100 Day Challenge, Logan Together invites parents, carers and caregivers to a special screening of Seen, a groundbreaking documentary exploring the power of personal healing and its impact on parenting and child brain development. Enjoy the film, followed by casual conversations for those who wish to stay. Childminding is available in a separate room. Adults only for the screening. Bookings required. Remembrance Day Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to honour the service and sacrifice of members of the armed forces and those affected by war. It is a time for reflection and collective remembrance. Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held across the city by local RSL’s, community groups and other organisations. Breakthrough Movember: an evening with Corey Lum and Hayden Esparon Growing a moustache during Movember isn’t the only way to support men’s health! Community members are invited to a powerful evening with wellbeing advocates Corey Lum (Logan East Community Neighbourhood Association) and Hayden Esparon (Kingston East Neighbourhood Group). They will draw on their lived experiences and provide tips to help men speak up, seek support, and empower one another. Radio host Jason Dasey will lead the conversation, followed by Q&A and informal chats over light refreshments. For ages 16+. Bookings required. When: Thursday 27 November, 6pm to 7:30pm
Community ProgramsFREE school ‘catch-up’ immunisation clinic Has your child missed their Year 7 or Year 10 vaccinations? Logan City Council is offering free community immunisation clinics to help families catch up. It's quick, easy and free - don’t miss this opportunity to keep your child protected and healthy. When: Saturday 22 November, 1:30pm to 3:30pm
Generations at Play 👨👩👧👦 Generations at Play brings children aged 0-5, their parents, and local seniors together for playful connection and meaningful community. It's a space for children to engage in fun and meaningful activities, for parents to support each other and access support from local services, and for seniors to offer their love and time to the families in their community in an environment that's safe and committed to seeing families thrive. When: Fridays, 9:30am to 11am (Weeks 2-9 of the school term)
PC/Coffee Group – Seniors Group Seniors are invited to join the PC & Coffee Group at Springwood Library for friendly tech help and great company. Bring your laptop, tablet or mobile phone and learn about device maintenance, online safety, emails, saving photos, and more. Enjoy morning tea and a chat in a relaxed setting. Please bring your own cup or mug. All welcome! When: 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month, 9am to 12pm
Funding OpportunitiesApplications are now open for the Women’s Career Grants program, administered by Future Women in partnership with the Queensland Government. This program supports women in Queensland who are ready to re-enter the workforce after a break. The Women’s Career Grant provides up to $4,999 to women to help meet the costs associated with the transition back into the workforce. Applications close: Grant funding is available from 3 November 2025 to 30 June 2026, or until all funds have been awarded. Expressions of Interest fare now open for the new Multicultural Connect Grants Program (MCGP). This grant funding program provides up to $500,000 (GST exclusive) in one-off, matched funding to help not-for-profit organisations and local councils build or upgrade facilities that support multicultural communities. The grants will support community infrastructure that will bring communities together, creating connections and strengthening social cohesion. EOI's close: Friday 14 November 2025 Applications are now open for Round 3 of Council's Community Project Grants. Round 3 invites community organisations to apply for funding that supports long-term outcomes aligned with #NeighboursEveryDay - Relationships Australia’s year-round campaign promoting social connection, wellbeing, and community resilience. Applicants may seek funding for a Neighbour Day event, but proposals must show how the initiative creates lasting impact beyond the event itself. One-off events without long-term outcomes may be better suited to our Community Event Funding program.
