Dear friend, This year marks the sixth year of Lift UP’s Adopt a Building Program. With our adopter’s support, we’re ensuring that 3,411 residents of 27 low-income apartment buildings in Northwest and Downtown Portland have direct access to nutritious food on-site, increasing their food security and empowering them to build healthy lives and connect with their community. Although each building is unique, Adopters’ support helps provide up to 4,500 meals a year for residents through the following services : Emergency Food Closets These small food pantries provide supplemental non-perishable food for residents with an unexpected or urgent need for food access. Use of these closets has doubled in some of our Adopted buildings since the start of the pandemic. Delivered Food Boxes Residents unable to travel to our pantry, typically because of their health or a disability, receive a monthly grocery delivery to their door with a week’s worth of pantry staples, fresh produce, meat, and dairy items. Boxes are modified to meet religious or health-related dietary needs. Supper Clubs During this healthy eating workshop series, residents learn about nutrition, build cooking skills, and connect with their neighbors. Each session includes ingredients, recipes, and a meal that offers an educational, fun experience.
This month we want to extend a special thanks to some of our adoption partners:
Adopting a building not only provides wrap-around food security for residents -- it is also a great way to engage with your neighbors as a volunteer. I want to express my deep gratitude to the Adopters who join us in feeding our community – thank you! We have several buildings that need some love. If you are interested in sponsoring a building, please reach out to stephanie@lifturbanportland.org to review building portfolios and find your perfect match! With appreciation, Stephanie Barr PS All gifts matter -- big or small. Would you consider giving to our Spring Food and Fund Drive today? All gifts are being matched by Amazon. A $5 donation usually equals 15 meals but today your gift doubles meaning $5 equals 30 meals for your neighbors! Food brings us together. |
