This past week, Dr. Kunimoto and I, along with the other education leaders attended Spring Convocation and celebrated our graduates as they completed their professional training programs in Medicine, Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, Radiation Therapy and Medical Laboratory Science. Over 270 students graduated from our professional programs this Spring. We also recognized our brilliant graduate students who completed their Masters and PhDs from the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and those completing the Certificate in Biomedical Research as well. We want to extend our great appreciation and thanks to the teachers, professors, technicians, staff, administrators, program directors, assistant and associate deans who contributed to the education of our newest health professionals. Our students now join the alumni community as Graduates of the University of Alberta and of FoMD; we want them to stay in touch and share their stories of success. We anticipate great things from our grads! This month's newsletter will focus on the convocation spotlight stories that highlight a small fraction of the exceptional students that are part of the Class of 2019. Enjoy! More MD Program Curriculum Working Groups Over the next several months, the MD Program is holding a series of curricular working group meetings to review the curriculum for all courses and clerkships. We use these working groups as an opportunity to look at curricular topics across all four years of the program and to review the associated objectives, course/clerkship evaluations, and assessments. As part of our commitment to quality improvement and to ensure the horizontal and vertical integration of the undergraduate medical curriculum, the working groups ensure that our curriculum is up-to-date and reviewed on a regular basis. The curricular working groups were first established at the time of our last full accreditation and will be a critical component of our preparations for the next full accreditation in two years. Over the next few months, we will be organizing more than 25 groups, who will meet to review course and session objectives and content, assessments, and student evaluations. Each working group will then make recommendations for any changes or updates to the MD Curriculum & Program Committee (MDCPC) for approval. Working groups are made up of faculty members, MD Program staff, residents, students, and others who are committed to the ongoing quality improvement of our curriculum. We thank everyone who is taking time out of their busy schedules to support this important work. If you have questions about the working groups, please contact Dr. Tracey Hillier, Associate Dean, MD Program. ![]() Fellowship Guidelines are now available on the PGME website for both sponsored and non-sponsored fellows, along with offer letter templates for each of these categories, which are now a requirement for application.
