+90% OF OUR YOUTH IN CLASS       A MILLION NEW BEGINNINGS       TRACKING THE FRIDAY FADE
According to Stats SA’s latest Household Survey data, more than 90% of our youth (ages 7-16) are participating in basic education, outperforming the Sub-Saharan African average and matching the enrolment footprint of many high-income countries.     According to the latest DBE EMIS School Realities report a total of 1,1 million learners enrolled into Grade 1 in 2025, with 93% at public schools. To track the likely Term 4 promotion rate of your current Grade 1 learners, log in to the dashboard today.     DDD's aggregated 2026 SA-SAMS data shows Mondays and Fridays have the highest learner absenteeism rates.   SOLVE YOUR SCHOOL’S BLINDPSOTS WITH DATA

If you lead a large public school, you know the feeling: hundreds of decisions to make, thousands of learners to account for, and never quite enough visibility into what’s happening across your classrooms right now.

Here are five ways data can address that — and exactly where to look.

1. Teacher absenteeism slipping through the cracks. When a teacher misses class in a school of 1 500 learners, it can take days before you even know. The DDD Dashboard's Attendance Trends section, Educator Information report, and Term-to-Date views give you a near real-time picture, so you can act before instructional time is lost.

2. Learners quietly disengaging. DDD automatically sends you weekly email alerts listing any learner absent for three or more consecutive days, so you can reach out to families before a child falls irreparably behind.

3. Syllabus backlogs you only discover in November. DDD's term-to-date task mark tracking flags incomplete or missing marks per subject and grade — an early warning that something is slipping. The School Achievement and Learner Chart reports let you drill deeper as the year progresses.

4. Post-assessment blind spots.
DDD’s Principal Overview brings together the metrics most relevant to you (term promotion trends, learner enrolment trends, and absenteeism insights) so you can spot problems at a glance. Find it on the dashboard home page, under the heading "Role-Specific Insights".

5. Mismatched teacher deployment. The Educator Information report profiles each educator by grade, including educator count, retirement-age flags, and absence trends, giving your management team the evidence it needs to make smarter deployment decisions.

The data is there, and so is the tool.

If you already have a DDD account, log in today. If you don't, contact the DDD helpdesk, your circuit manager, or your EMIS official to get started.

FROM MUSIC CLASSROOMS TO EXAM HALLS

Every successful examination season depends on more than learners and teachers. Behind the scenes are dedicated education professionals working tirelessly to ensure that every learner has the opportunity to succeed. For Mashoto Komane, that responsibility starts with data.

As a Senior Education Specialist in Mpumalanga's Bohlabela District, he relies on accurate information to help manage examinations for thousands of learners. From verifying learner numbers to identifying discrepancies before they become problems, data helps ensure schools receive the support they need.

But his impact extends far beyond examination halls. A lifelong music educator, choir conductor and contributor to South Africa's national Grade 12 Music Study Guide, Komane believes that understanding learners is the key to helping them reach their full potential.

Because when educators have access to the right information, they can identify challenges earlier, recognise talent and provide targeted support that changes lives.

How is one education leader using data to strengthen both examinations and learner success? Read the full story to find out.
