Junior School NoticesTERM 1 WEEK 4From the Head of Junior SchoolDear valued member of the PLC community, PLC Parents' Welcome SundownerOn Friday, we enjoyed a lovely evening with our parents and guardians for the PLC Parents' Welcome Sundowner on the Quad. Guests were entertained by the beautiful voices of Class of 2022 graduates Insiah Riaz and Olivia Muir. A very special thank you to Lizzie Marinko and the PLC Parents' Committee for organising this wonderful annual event. Lunar New YearLast Friday at the Senior School Assembly, Alyssa Lam (Year 4) performed Havana on the Guzheng. It was incredible and inspiring to watch. PLC has recently purchased eight of these instruments which coincides with the appointment of Guzheng teacher, Ms Xueyan Chen. Ms Chen also performed Libertango. Girls in Years 3 and 4 have the opportunity to learn Gunheng this year! Learning Beyond the ClassroomAs a culmination of a six-month collaborative project between Year 4, Year 5, and Gorna Liyarn students, these students visited the Reclaim The Void Exhibition at the Boola Bardip Museum. They spoke to the organisers about the project and were able to donate 12 rugs made by the students. We are extremely proud of our involvement and contributions in this project. Year 6 OEPIt was an exciting start to the week as our Year 6 students boarded the bus to attend their Outdoor Education Programme (OEP) adventure at Busselton. The focus for the Year 6 OEP is the development of self-leadership skills. The staff and girls participate in a variety of activities that promote:
As you can see, these essential life skills are closely aligned with our Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Learner Profiles that underpin all our learning in the Junior School at PLC. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Learner Profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. They imply a commitment to help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others, and the world around them. Years 1 and 2 River and Beach Nature Play ProgrammeLast Friday, our Years 1 and Year 2 students enjoyed another brilliant outdoor learning opportunity as they engaged in the River and Beach Nature Play Programme, and were joined by the Scotch students. By the time I visited the girls down at the river, I was quickly swept into the creation of a natural museum that had been imaginatively designed and curated by our girls. It was so much fun to go through the ‘bag check’ before I ‘entered’ the museum. Once I was allowed to look at the incredible collection of artifacts on display, I was quickly reminded not to touch any of the museum artifacts because I didn’t work there! Absolutely priceless and wonderful to see our girls taking their nature play to the next level. The Magic of MannersThis week, I have had the absolute pleasure of hearing so many "please" and "thank you" comments coming from our girls. At our next assembly on Friday 24 February, we will be highlighting the power of good manners and what that looks like in our Junior School. I am getting wonderfully warm greetings in the slipway every morning. Thank you to the girls who always say "hello Mrs Drabble", "yes please", and thank you". Some other manners we will discuss over the next few weeks are "excuse me", "how are you today?", and waiting your turn. All the staff are looking for the ‘Magic of Manners’ this term. Mrs Geraldine Drabble Junior School BulletinImportant InformationExpressions of Interest –Cottesloe Bus RouteWe are working on a number of measures to ensure our students' safety with regard to the safe crossing at Stirling Highway near McNeil Street. One solution we are looking into is an additional bus service in the afternoon taking students from PLC into Cottesloe. Roll-out of this new route will be strengthened by the number of students prepared to use this service. Please click this link to view the route and then click the button below to take the short survey to register your interest.
