Cr John-Paul Baladi, Mayor of Strathfield Dear Residents, On behalf of Council, I would like to express our gratitude to our community who have shown kindness and generosity by donating non-perishable food items for this year’s Homelessness Appeal. Rangers have gathered all donations to be dropped off to St Paul’s Church and St Merkorious Charity so they can be distributed to those who are in need. This Sunday marks the 34th anniversary of the Strathfield Massacre resulting in the tragic loss of life and trauma for those who survived. Council held a commemorative service in collaboration with Cumberland RSL Sub-branch today at Strathfield Square so that members of our community could honour the seven victims of the tragic events that unfolded on 17 August 1991. Attendees also had the privilege to hear from Greg Read SC who was awarded The Star of Courage for his role in warning shoppers to take cover on the day. As always, if you have a local concern or idea you’d like to share, you can reach me on 0400 017 759 or at cr.jpbaladi@strathfield.nsw.gov.au.
