While we await further news, I'd like to shine a spotlight on some of the excellent work currently going on across TEL. Last week the Simulation and Immersive Technology team attended the launch of the Royal College of Nursing Prison Nursing Unlocked exhibition and have concluded a very exciting project supporting the design of future Return to Practice nursing courses. Earlier in the month the platforms team helped the Blended Learning Programme launch PEEP on the Learning Hub, as well as the paediatric nursing renal competence framework on the DLS platform You can find details of both these programmes below. I know there is much more to come in the next few months and I look forward to continuing to work with you all to keep delivering on our commitments. ![]() Workstream UpdatesSimulation and Immersive Technologies TEL Supports prison exhibition at Royal College of NursingThe Nursing in Adult Prison Healthcare Settings programme will be on display at the RCN ‘Prison Nursing Unlocked’ exhibition*, running until mid-October 2025 in central London. Members of the Simulation and Immersive Technologies team attended the launch event on Thursday 24 April to demonstrate the programme through virtual reality headsets. The immersive learning programme was developed to give nursing staff and students insight into delivering care to the prison population. Learners hear from healthcare professionals working in prison settings and can complete a number of interactive scenarios. Find out more about the Nursing in Adult Prison Healthcare Settings programme. *The free exhibition is open to all members of the public and will run from Thursday 24 April to mid-October 2025 at the RCN HQ in London. Extended reality (XR) Mental Health training evaluation paper publishedThe Simulation and Immersive Technologies team in partnership with the Centre for Immersive Technologies at the University of Leeds have had their paper Extended Reality–Enhanced Mental Health Consultation Training: Quantitative Evaluation Study published in the JMIR Medical Education journal. The evaluation study explores the training experience in terms of learning outcomes and perceptions on XR in mental health consultation training. Learners can interact directly with virtual patient Stacey using extended or virtual reality, the responses are controlled by an instructor which allows learners to have realistic, natural conversations. ![]() New Return to Practice Nursing blended learning curriculumThe Simulation and Immersive Technologies team has been working with the Return to Practice (RTP) Nursing team and colleagues in Blended Learning to design and deliver a new RTP Nursing programme. Earlier this month, NHSE colleagues came together with stakeholders from the University of Plymouth, Sheffield Hallam University and Coventry University to discuss and agree the new blended learning curriculum and to reach a consensus on which learning experiences and technologies would offer the best options for the new course. The new software packages will be procured through the Immersive, Simulation and Related Technologies Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS), which was launched in 2024. This new RTP Nursing course will be delivered from September 2025 across the 3 universities. ![]() Supporting TELTEL NetworkAre you a member of the NHS England Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Network? Platform Updates![]() PlatformsOur TEL platforms are free to use and are designed to meet differing training needs. A wide range of learning resources can be found on the Learning Hub, which allows colleagues with an NHS, GOV.UK or ac.uk email address to contribute content. The Learning Hub is developed iteratively to ensure ease of use and functionality meets our learners’ requirements. Latest resources on the Learning Hub include a new catalogue from the NHSE Blended Learning Programme offering resources relating to Peer Enhanced E-Placement (PEEP) Experience. New Competency Framework Live on Digital Learning SolutionsThe new Paediatric Renal Nursing competency framework has been launched on the Digital Learning Solutions (DLS) platform. Colleagues working in paediatric nursing will now be able to complete their learning online. The Data Professionals framework is in the process of being converted and will be joining the platform soon. The TEL support team are now hosting a monthly drop-in session to support centres with any technical queries they may have around competency frameworks. This is complimented by framework specific communities of practice (CoP). If you are interested in joining any of these please contact the TEL support team for further details. Expanding Clinical Placement OpportunitiesAs healthcare moves towards digitalisation so does the training of clinicians. The Peer Enhanced e-Placement (PEEP) model has been designed to improve blended learning placement opportunities in health and care. The PEEP model was developed as a response to challenges posed by COVID-19, ensuring that students can still meet their placement learning requirements online. April Foundation Programme UpdatePatients with long term conditions (chronic disease), how good are you at helping them after they leave hospital? Available in elearning for healthcare Foundation Programme (2021 curriculum) – these sessions cover areas in your curriculum on; FPC 1: Clinical Assessment, FPC 2: Clinical Prioritisation, FPC 3: Holistic Planning, FPC 4: Communication and Care and FPC 5: Continuity of Care. Perinatal Mental Health Birth Trauma - new courseNew elearning on Perinatal Mental Health Birth Trauma has been created to support patients who have undergone a traumatic experience during birth. Three new learning modules build on a trauma informed approach to further explore birth trauma specifically and have been added to the Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) programme on the elearning for healthcare (elfh) hub. They are suitable for all professionals involved in perinatal care. New Research Published: Identifying Research Priorities in Digital Education for Health CareFollowing two years of research, the TEL Research and Academic Development team led by Chris Munsch and Alison Potter, have had their research paper published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research. The paper, ‘Identifying Research Priorities in Digital Education for Health Care: Umbrella Review and Modified Delphi Method Study’, now provides a comprehensive list of research questions, identifies priority areas for future research and is an important contribution to the literature on digital education. Next AI Ambassador network meetingThe Artificial Intelligence Ambassador Network is a 4,000+ strong learning community for anyone in healthcare and interested in AI in healthcare. The next AI Ambassador network meeting will take place on 7 May 2025, 10.30 – 12.00, will feature topics including; AI in ADHD and community paediatrics, improving AI literacy and others.
