New format to maximize the number of residents taking lessons... SUMMER SWIM LESSON REGISTRATION COMING SOON!Please read to be aware of all changes made this summer!Dear Valued Customer, This summer we are working with our staff to maximize swim lesson opportunities for residents of Des Moines and Normandy Park. During the Spring of 2023, we were able to serve over 290 participants with 98% of those participants being residents with our new system. This is up from around 60% residents last summer (2022).Also, all grants for free lessons have been fully utilized, so we will be back to regular fees and scholarships. See sections below for more information. GENERAL OVERVIEW OF SCHEDULE This summer, we have the following opportunities. See dates and times in section below. Mornings:
Evenings:
No Weekend Classes: This summer, we will not be offering Saturday classes, as last year it was difficult to recruit staff, and participants showed up inconsistently. We hope the new evening weekday options will help develop more class opportunities and consistency. FEESThere will be no grants available this summer. Visit our website for class fees. We also have scholarships available and simplified the process earlier this year. Click here for more information. See fee schedule below for more detailed information. PRACTICE TIME The district is dedicated to help youth become better swimmers. We realize that swim lessons alone are not enough, and that practice is a key component. This summer we will allow current youth swim participants and one parent* free entry during the following times.
REGISTRATION DATES We are dedicated to giving resident priority to register for classes. With the change to a summer schedule with children out of school, we will make the following changes. SCHEDULE & FEES EXPANDED Below is the swim lesson schedule for this summer, not including pre-competitive swim options. The August schedule will be made available to current July participants sometime in early July. SWIM LESSON PAGE UPDATES We have made some major changes to the swim lesson page to better serve you. This includes a new format of information and minimum attendance requirements. Please read the new swim lesson page by clicking the button below. SCHOLARSHIPSWe have updated our scholarship program including a simplified process, resident focus, and 90% coverage for all programs! The scholarship program is for residents of Des Moines and Normandy Park only. SCHOLARSHIP HELP NIGHT The Mount Rainier Pool will host a pre-approval scholarship event on Thursday, June 15 from 4:00-7:00pm. The event will be to help patrons complete their paperwork, and get pre-approved for scholarships, when registration opens the following week. Note-scholarship pre-approval does not guarantee a spot in a class and just a reminder scholarships usually take up to ten (10) business days. Click here to visit scholarship page for more information. REFUND POLICYWe are adding a service fee to ensure people are not dropping out of swim lessons at the last minute. This takes open spots away from others and effects the quality of lessons. For swim lessons, a $10 service fee (plus pro-rated first class, if needed) will be added for refunds, and no refunds will be processed after the first class. Again, this is to improve the quality of programming and maximize attendance in classes. Click here to view the Admissions and Refund Policy.
