Message From Your Chancellor's Associates Chair The fall quarter begins later this month, and it is an exciting time for our new and returning Chancellor’s Associates scholars as they return to campus. Thanks to your generous support, our new cohort includes 212 first-year and 165 transfer scholars. These scholars applied to college during the height of the pandemic, and we look forward to their accomplishments over the coming year. The start of the new quarter also brings the return of programming for your engagement and enjoyment. This academic year, we’ll have a mix of virtual and in-person events for you. Please save the date for our next event on October 8th: a virtual colloquium with Executive Vice Chancellor Elizabeth Simmons. We look forward to seeing you then and at other events during the year. With Triton pride, Jerrilyn Malana ’86 Service, Pride & Inclusion Message From the Chancellor Thanks to the partnership of alumni, students, parents, grateful patients, faculty, staff and friends like you, UC San Diego has had its fourth consecutive record-breaking fundraising year. The university received $376.4 million in philanthropic support for FY 2020-21, exceeding our $350 million annual goal for the first time. This extraordinary outpouring of philanthropy means that when the Campaign for UC San Diego concludes on June 30, 2022, a $3 billion campaign total may be within reach. Philanthropy empowers our Triton community to imagine, innovate and make our world a better place, supporting our ongoing efforts to increase access to higher education for the next generation of changemakers. This year marks a milestone in this work: UC San Diego admitted the most diverse and accomplished cohort in our history — more than one-third are from underrepresented groups. And our new incoming students join an already high-achieving student body, including our scholar-athletes, 118 of whom were recognized by the Big West Conference with All-Academic Team honors — the most of any school in the league. We are finding new ways to offer our current and future students access to leading-edge educational experiences while also supporting UC San Diego’s transformation into a regional hub for arts and culture. A $10 million naming gift from Daniel and Phyllis Epstein — lifetime Chancellor’s Associates — will support our new state-of-the-art amphitheater, moving us one step closer to that goal. The 2,850-seat Epstein Family Amphitheater is slated to open in fall 2022, and will host more than 300 performances each year, featuring local and international talent. Your support for programs and resources that increase access to educational opportunities — from financial aid to bridge programs to mentorship to cultural experiences — ensures that our students are prepared for success at UC San Diego and beyond. Thank you. With kind regards, Pradeep K. Khosla Donor Profile: California Coast Credit Union California Coast Credit Union CASP Once-A-Week Learning Communities (OLC) workshop (2019) We are proud to share that California Coast Credit Union is again collaborating with the Chancellor’s Associates Scholars Program (CASP) to sponsor CASP 101 and the CASP Once-A-Week Learning Communities series, which gives first-year students an opportunity to engage with peers, professionals and university staff on topics ranging from transitioning into college to utilizing on-campus resources. Cal Coast Credit Union has been a supporter of CASP since 2019, and their contributions have benefitted our Chancellor’s Associates Scholars immensely throughout the pandemic. “Cal Coast Credit Union has been both honored and delighted to have been a partner of the CASP program at UC San Diego for the past few years, and we are excited to announce our renewed partnership for the upcoming school year,” said René McKee, Cal Coast’s senior vice president of community and public relations. “As a purpose-driven, not-for-profit institution founded by local teachers 92 years ago, supporting the educational community and enhancing the success of students is at the very heart of what we do. By providing financial education and a myriad of resources for CASP students, our goal is to help them achieve financial wellness and success on their collegiate journey at UC San Diego and throughout the next chapters of their lives.” Cal Coast Credit Union’s philanthropy includes generous support for The Preuss School UC San Diego and the Black Student Resource Center, as well as student support and success programs such as Hope Scholars. Furthering their investment in the Triton community, Cal Coast Credit Union also partners with UC San Diego Recreation and provides a virtual Financial Wellness Center on the Rec website for all students. We are grateful for their collaboration on programs that benefit and empower our student community with the skills they need to achieve their dreams. CASP 101 Generously supported by California Coast Credit Union, CASP 101 is a summer transition program required of all new Chancellor’s Associates Scholar Program scholarship recipients. This year, CASP 101 was held remotely in July for our new incoming first-year and transfer students. At CASP 101 our new cohort had the opportunity to review all of their scholarship commitments, benefits and resources, as well as meet their peers, current students, staff and faculty.
