TERM 2 IS TIME TO RESET, REFOCUS AND RESPOND |
|
| |
| |
With the year’s first major exams approaching in Term 2, now is the time to tighten attendance, assessment, curriculum tracking and support – especially in Grades 4, 8, 10 and 11, where early signs of struggle often emerge.
Here are five quick actions to prevent small issues from becoming year-end risks:
1. Reset attendance from day one: Track learner and educator attendance each week, to help you spot problems early. Use the DDD Dashboard to identify absenteeism patterns by class, grade or group, and act immediately.
2. Turn Term 1 results into action: Analyse performance by grade, subject and class. Use the dashboard to track trends weekly and ensure your Term 2 support is driven by evidence, not instinct.
3. Focus curriculum conversations: Use dashboard data to pinpoint where coverage or performance is slipping. Keep discussions targeted on specific subjects, grades and classes, and not general trends.
4. Act early on emerging risk: As highlighted in Circular D3 of 2023, early identification is key. Use the dashboard to flag declining performance and assign clear support actions, timelines and accountability.
5. Strengthen parent conversations with evidence: Use learner-level data from the dashboard to clearly show an individual’s progress or challenges. This makes discussions with families more focused and impactful.

UNLEASH THE POWER
OF SMALL-GROUP LEARNING |
| |
| |
When it comes to building real data confidence, bigger isn’t always better.
In Vhembe West District, Limpopo EMIS officer, Patricia Badamarema, discovered a powerful truth: the impact of data doesn’t come from dashboards alone, but from how people engage with them. While the Data Driven Districts (DDD) dashboard offered rich insights, large training sessions left many educators unsure of how to turn data into action.
The shift? Smaller, focused groups.
Suddenly, conversations deepened. Questions surfaced. Confidence grew. Educators and principals began not just viewing data, but using it to identify gaps, guide interventions and strengthen support where it matters most.
This simple change transformed the dashboard from a reporting tool into a driver of real improvement, from district offices right into classrooms.
The lesson is clear: meaningful impact isn’t about reaching more people at once, but about reaching them better.
