Dear Residents,

Thank you to everyone who met up with me at my street meetings I have been holding around our local area these past few weeks, it's been great to see so many new and familiar faces as we discussed many good ideas and suggestions. My next street meeting will be this Saturday at Homebush Village and Strathfield Square, please see more details below.

This evening I will be officially opening the Ironbark Gallery's new exhibition Echoes of Silence: Amanda Hitchens & Clair Reynolds. The subject matter of this exhibition is Rookwood Cemetery where the artists' works reflect the themes of memory, loss, and the quiet resilience of nature. This exhibition is open to the public from tomorrow until 10 August, and I encourage you to immerse yourself in this fascinating and locally centric topic.

Exciting work is currently underway upgrading the skate park at Cooke Park! Thanks to funding through the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program, works are expected to be completed soon on this long-awaited project that is sure to be popular with our local teenagers. Please follow us on our Instagram and Facebook pages for updates.

If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.bcai@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999.

COMMUNITY UPDATE

Dinesh Garg speaker at the Council’s Citizenship Ceremony held in March and May at our Town Hall, here with Strathfield Mayor, Cr Benjamin Cai

Update from Strathfield Local Citizen of the Year Dinesh Garg

It has been almost 4 months since I was honoured as the Strathfield Citizen of the Year 2026 by Strathfield Council. Since then, I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you at several local Council and community events. I really admire the level of commitment and passion that some of you have to serve the community and make the projects & events that benefit the community successful. I believe many of you would potentially be great candidates for this prestigious Strathfield Citizen of the Year award in the coming years.

I often get asked by some of you about my contribution. I take the opportunity through this Council’s weekly eNews to pen a few words about what I’ve been up to in the community.

For the months of March & May, I had the privilege of being an official speaker at Council’s Citizenship Ceremony. I had the opportunity to share my Citizenship Journey and also to encourage new citizens about the importance of being involved in the community and volunteer for the benefit of moving our community forward.

I also attended the Seniors Week Morning Tea event, which was held at Strathfield Council’s Town Hall and got the chance to say a few words to the large attendance from the community. There were various entertaining performances from groups and organisations showcasing their culture - it was indeed a remarkable thing to watch. It indicates how diversly unique the Strathfield area is.

I have also been providing JP services at Strathfield Library for over 10 years. Some of you may have already seen me at the JP Desk in the Library on Wednesday mornings, for certifications and witnessing Statutory Declarations and Affidavits.

I hope to cross you sometime, somewhere in Strathfield. Feel free to stop me for a chat.

Dinesh Garg
