Tip of the Week

💡 4 Things to Do Before Careers Day

Careers Day (Sept. 24, 2025) is a great opportunity to gather information, build connections, and gain insights to help shape your career path. Here are four things you can do to set yourself up for success:

  1. Review the list of companies attending. Research the companies you're most interested in so that you have a basic understanding of their business, mission, core values, and engineering roles they offer - whether current job postings or positions engineers hold within the company.
  2. Think about what you know and don’t know about your preferred future career. Identify questions you can ask the companies to gain a better understanding of: what a career with them looks like, what it takes to stand out during the application process, and excel in the role once hired.
  3. Reflect on your skills, strengths, aptitudes, and interests. Be prepared to share who you are and what you’re interested in pursuing for your next summer job, co-op term, or permanent opportunity following graduation. If you don’t have a particular role in mind, ensure to provide information about yourself that helps them understand what kind of team member and overall employee you would be.
  4. Review and update your resume. Some companies may require an online application while others expect a physical copy of your resume. Ensure that your resume is up-to-date, easy to read through, error-free, and includes quantifiable details (#,$,%). Incorporating specifics like team size or project value provides context for your achievements. For more guidance on writing effective resumes visit our Resource Vault.

For additional tips and advice attend our "How to WOW at the Career Fair" workshop on Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. and Ask Us Anything (Career Fairs & Networking) on Sept. 22 at 2 p.m.

Unable to attend? Explore our "Stand Out at Career Fairs" in the Resource Vault and the U of A Career Centre’s "Guide to Career Fairs" for more information.
