Cr Karen Pensabene, Mayor of Strathfield

Dear Residents,

Last year Council made a commitment to residents to improve our assets like roads and footpaths. To date, Council has spent $2.3 million of these funds on footpath upgrades, $708,000 on road resurfacing and $45,000 on kerb and gutter works. We’re well on track to deliver 117 footpath, 38 road and 33 kerb and gutter upgrades by June 2024. I would like to thank residents for helping us to achieve this momentous milestone, as well as Council staff for working hard to deliver these important upgrades. We have much more work ahead, so please stay tuned for updates.

Thank you to everyone who joined Council at ACU on Wednesday night for the Housing Forum, and to The Hon Rose Jackson who was our guest speaker. Ms Jackson is the Minister for Housing and shared her approach and priorities for addressing the housing crisis, particularly affordable housing. After her talk, Ms Jackson answered questions with thoughtful and clear information, and we appreciate her joining us. Thank you also to Jason Yet-Sen Li, Member for Strathfield, for collaborating with Council on the event.

Finally, I’d like to wish everyone celebrating Easter a happy and safe weekend. Please take care on the roads when traveling to see your loved ones. I hope the Easter Bunny is generous with you!

If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.kpensabene@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999

Freshwater Park is now going with the flow

Councils Civil Works Team have successfully cleared an old, blocked stormwater pipe at Freshwater Park, which had the potential to cause local flooding. They have updated and replaced it with a channel made from recycled sandstone.

The new channel is a hit with locals – a duck family has already moved in!

Happy 20th Birthday Strathfield Library!

Strathfield Library was officially opened on 12 March 2004, replacing an earlier building constructed in 1976. On 29 March 2004 it opened its doors to the community, welcoming more than 1100 people and 120 new members on that day alone!

The library was awarded the Master Builders Association’s Excellence in Construction Award for public buildings up to $5 million. The building incorporated ecologically sustainable development (ESD) principles including solar panels and rainwater tanks. During 2019 and 2020 Strathfield Library underwent renovations, reopening as Strathfield Council Library & Innovation Hub gradually in July 2020 as Covid restrictions permitted.
