ECU Awards

WorkCover WA proudly supports the next generation of rehabilitation providers and claims managers by sponsoring Edith Cowan University's Workplace Compensation and Injury Management units in the Health Sciences course.

On 27 March, we were pleased to attend the School of Medical and Health Sciences Student Award Ceremony to present the WorkCover WA Award (Undergraduate) to Sandra Midia, and the WorkCover WA Award (Postgraduate) to Rotimi Ogunleye. Their award includes a ticket to our upcoming Conference.

We look forward to continuing our work with ECU to support the service providers and practitioners of tomorrow.

National Return to Work Survey

WorkCover WA is partnering with Safe Work Australia and Wallis Research to conduct the National Return to Work Survey.

The survey aims to get direct feedback from those who have been involved in the workers compensation process, to inform policy development and improve outcomes for injured workers across Australia.

Privacy of all participants is a priority, and an initial opt-out mailout has recently been completed, with next steps to come.

The full National Return to Work Strategy is available on the Safe Work Australia website.

ARBITRATION UPDATE

People sitting around a desk with computers and two people shaking hands

The Registrar Arbitration has made a minor amendment to the Workers Compensation and Injury Management Arbitration Rules 2024. The amendment deletes Rule 16(4)(a) and therefore allows an applicant in a dispute to foreshadow documents in accordance with Rule 16(2).

REACHING THE REGIONS

Albany

We recently visited Albany for a two-day trip packed full of education and engagement.

Ten people standing on a beach

Day 1: We checked in with local Workplace Rehabilitation Providers, and met with multiple General Practice clinics, as well as Albany Health Campus, to distribute key resources for workers and our new Guide for Treating Medical Practitioners.

Day 2: We held two seminars in partnership with the It Pays to Care team for local Employers, with a morning seminar for State and Local Government Employers, and an afternoon session for Employers and Employer Representatives. Our sincere thanks to Dr Mary Wyatt, Dr Amy Bright and Sharon Stratford for working with us to reach the regions.

Bunbury

We were pleased to join the WorkFocus Australia team in Bunbury to celebrate their 30th Anniversary in the South West of WA.

Not only did the event provide an opportunity to connect with our scheme participants in Bunbury, but General Manager Rebecca Harris was also honoured to chair a panel discussion about the evolution of workplaces and take a closer look about what it means to be a neuro-affirmative workplace in 2025.

WA Rural Health Conference

We were pleased to be a sponsor of the WA Rural Health Conference 2025 held on 22-23 March. As charging sponsor we kept attendees energised through the weekend and also provided hardcopies of our new Guide for Treating Medical Practitioners to all attendees.
