THE STATE OF PLAY | NEWSLETTER # 29
Hello friends, Club Respect was on the road this month, participating in the True Sport conference at Optus Stadium in Perth. As part of our ongoing partnership with True Sport’s Sideline Behaviour initiative, Club Respect's A.W.E.S.O.M.E. framework was proudly on display around the venue. Speaking in a panel session, I emphasised the importance of safety when calling out poor sideline behaviour and highlighted the untapped power of parents collectively taking
action. Well done to the SportWest team, a great event and opportunity to connect with the Western Australian sports community. ** Last week we released Part 1 of the Q & A between Patrick Skene and Cameron Tradell, who leads the Coaching and Officiating team at the Australian Sports Commission. Today we're releasing Part 2 of A line in the sand for match officials: Q&A with Cameron Tradell. Big thank you to Patrick and Cameron for this
brilliant discussion and shining the spotlight on Match Officials. Tarik Bayrakli

A line in the sand for match officials: Q&A with Cameron Tradell (Part 2)
By Patrick Skene
Digging deeper into the unrealistic standard of perfection, learning from the best outside of Australia and the link between coaches and officiating... Check out the second half, Part 2, of Club Respect’s chat between Patrick Skene and Cameron Tradell (Australian Sports Commission). “The fact is sport is predicated on someone making a mistake. It’s interesting in cricket, when an umpire makes a mistake people blow up, yet for a game to finish in cricket there needs 20 wickets or 20 mistakes. (40 in a test match). So, players are making mistakes all the time, but umpires are supposed to be held above that standard.” – Cameron Tradell Brilliant discussion and great leadership by Cameron Tradell, Brooke Kneebush and the team at Australian Sports Commission for shining the spotlight on Match Officials.
Jackson Katz x Victorian Women's Trust
We recently hosted Jackson Katz, Ph.D, a gender equality and violence prevention activist at the Victorian Women's Trust (VWT) office for a conversation with close contacts of VWT and Club Respect. Jackson presented at the launch of a VWT program called Be The Hero (a violence prevention program for young men) in 2012 at Melbourne Town Hall. This program was the inspiration which led to the development of Club Respect. Was great to have Jackson back in Melbourne. If you're keen, check out some of Jackson's most notable work: - The TEDx talk, "Violence Against Women: It's a Men's Issue" where Jackson emphasises that addressing violence against women is not solely a women's issue - it's a collective responsibility.
- The book "The Macho Paradox" (revised/updated version) where Jackson explores masculinity, cultural norms, and the impact of stereotypes.
