Click here HAMPSHIRE LADIES GOLFAugust Update25th August 2022 Dear Delegate, Welcome to the August Delegates’ Newsletter, here I aim to provide more detail about the October Delegates Meeting; briefly give feedback from the August HLG Board Meeting; and finally, outline any other news items which may be of general interest. Delegates Meeting Just a brief reminder - the next Delegates Meeting will be held at Royal Winchester on 21st October from 10:00-13:00 followed by a light lunch. You will receive a separate invitation shortly, with an outline programme and registration details, but we do hope to see as many of you there as possible. To assess the effectiveness of the meeting and obtain your feedback we will be sending out a Survey Monkey form after the event so please look out for it. Two key agenda items have been agreed for the October meeting so far: (a) How do we as a county invest in our juniors. Recent focus has been on bringing new players into our sport but how do we encourage and nurture our existing juniors. (b) Competition rule changes and HI limits review. This topic will include analysis of competition statistics since the WHS came into effect in November 2020. It will also feedback decisions made in the Board Meeting annual rules review and consider the points raised by several clubs with reference to the Stoneham Cup. To allow clubs to take account of any rule changes agreed at the Delegates Meeting the draw for the Stoneham Cup will be delayed to 31st October. The closing date for Stoneham Cup entries will however remain as 9th September though clubs may withdraw before the draw takes place if they so wish. Note – the draw for the North Hants Trophy and Knight Cup will take place as usual and be available on the day. Board Update HLG Board held their quarterly Board Meeting on 12th August. All Board members and 8 Appointed Officers were in attendance though unfortunately the planned game of golf afterwards was postponed due to the high temperatures. A summary of key discussions from the Board Meeting is available on the Delegates page of the website and >> here. Particular focus was given to the annual rules’ review which took up a considerable proportion of the meeting. As I’ve already mentioned we will feedback regarding the rule changes in October. Other topics covered included a review of risks pertaining to HLG, feedback from each of the County Teams (all of whom are having an extremely successful year) and progress against meeting our WIG, GGR and SafeGolf targets, plus of course the standard finance review and closure of actions from prior meetings. If you have any queries from the summary provided on the Delegates’ page please don’t hesitate to contact me at admin@hampshireladiesgolf.com . Other news Website – In the next few months we will be seeking your feedback on the current HLG website after we’ve made considerable changes in year, and to inform us before we consider moving to an Intelligent Golf hosted site. The main benefit of such a move will be enhanced integration between competitions and the website and an improved user experience. Change to calculation of Playing Conditions Calculation (PCC) – In response to concerns raised that the current PCC calculation is too conservative, and after due analysis of scoring data, an amendment has been made by EG / R&A to the calculation of PCC. This minor rounding change will increase the instance of an adjustment for abnormal conditions by an average of 5%. The change comes into effect on 22nd August and will not be applied retrospectively. Your Club Handicap Secretary will be able to give you more information if you need it. Looking ahead to next season. With all bar one of the fixtures for 2023 now available online >> here can I recommend you feed the dates into your club fixture setting process to avoid clashes with the major competitions. Finally, it’s not too late to encourage your members to enter the last two competitions of the year: the Division 1 Autumn Championship for HI + to 20.0 and at the other end of the scale, the Bowmaker for HI 36.1-54. Further details available on the website. As always – any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me, otherwise I look forward to seeing you all in October.
