Mr Salim (Sam) Bashir

1937 - 2024

The Principal, Council and St Andrew’s College community honour the life of Salim Bashir (Fr 1955) who passed away peacefully on 27 August 2024.

Salim, also known as Sam, was born in Narrandera on 23 July 1937. His older sister is Hon Professor Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO FTSE, the long-serving former Governor of New South Wales and the former Chancellor of the University of Sydney.

He attended Sydney Grammar School and held a qualification in rifle shooting.

He resided in St Andrew's College from 1955-1956. Initially studying Medicine at the University of Sydney, he then switched to Pharmacy. He owned a pharmacy in Randwick for 30 years, where he greatly enjoyed helping people.

In later years, he transitioned his career into Financial & Estate Planning, Risk Management and Insurance.

Sam is survived by his wife, three daughters, five grandchildren and extended family.

His funeral will be held 10am tomorrow, Friday 30 August at St George Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral, corner of Walker and Cooper Streets in Redfern, Sydney.

The Bashir family is held warmly in our thoughts and our deepest sympathy is extended to all who knew Sam.
