Robins Road Wastewater Upgrades

Newsletter #1 | January 2026

About the project

We're currently working with HEB to upgrade wastewater infrastructure on Robins Road in Queenstown, as part of our ongoing commitment to improve local infrastructure and ensure a clean and healthy environment for everyone.

The existing pipeline running through the area takes wastewater from properties in Arthurs Point, on Gorge Road in Queenstown and the surrounding streets. The old pipe has limited capacity to allow for more development in the area, runs underneath several private properties, and is located within close proximity to Horne Creek.

By upgrading wastewater infrastructure and installing a new pipeline down Robins Road, we can provide enough capacity for future housing in the area. We’ll also be able to reduce the risk of severe weather leading to wastewater overflows that affect private properties or enter Horne Creek and Lake Whakatipu.

Once complete, the new pipeline will run along Robins Road between the Horne Creek bridge and Boundary Street, before connecting with recently completed infrastructure at Queenstown Recreation Ground and the existing pump station nearby.

Upcoming closure to section of Robins Road

Starting from Monday 12 January 2026, Robins Road will be closed to both lanes of traffic between Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel through to Hamilton Road so crews can install the new wastewater pipeline.

Residents within the work site will be able to access their properties from the northern end of Robins Road.

Rubbish collection will continue within the work site, but some bins may need to be moved where activities may restrict access.

Increased noise, heavy machinery movements, and vibrations should be expected by properties near the work site.

Crews finished upgrading water supply infrastructure on the eastern side of Robins Road in December 2025 as part of this project.

When will this section of Robins Road open?

After Easter in 2026, Robins Road will open to one lane of southbound traffic through to late May, with the northbound lane remaining closed between Queenstown Primary School and Hamilton Road.

We’ll be in touch closer to Easter Weekend to update you on what to expect.

Construction dates and times

Crews will be working from 7.30am to 5.30pm each day, Monday to Friday. Some work on Saturdays will take place in 2026, and brief periods of night works may be required too.

We'll provide future updates if and when any work at night is required.

We expect the project to be completed by June 2026.
