"Exploring the Escalette Collection" Students Install Exhibition Featuring Indigenous Artwork Students in Dr. Fiona Shen’s First Year Focus (FFC) class, “Exploring the Escalette Collection of Art: An Experiential Journey” recently installed a new exhibition in Roosevelt Hall, home to Wilkinson College. The WE WERE THEN, WE ARE NOW student-curated exhibit, part of ETW: Leading the Conversation on Ethnic Studies series, opens the floor to contemporary indigenous artwork in the Escalette Collection, featuring artists from the Akimel O'odham, Chemehuevi, Cahuilla, and Tongva tribes. Editorial Cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz Talks Art and Activism Wilkinson College recently welcomed editorial cartoonist, Chicano artist, and TV writer and producer Lalo Alcaraz to speak about his politically themed and nationally syndicated comic strip, “La Cucaracha,” as a part of the ETW: Leading the Conversation on Ethnic Studies series. "Satire is another language," said Alcaraz, that allows him to highlight not only his Chicano culture and childhood as a Mexican immigrant in San Diego, but also issues of politics, public health, and humanity. Alumna Tanya Leon ('22, MA International Studies; '19, Political Science, Peace Studies, Minor in Alumna Starts New Position at Orange County Justice Fund (OCJF) Wilkinson College alumna Tanya Leon (’19 & ’22) recently started a new position as the program coordinator for the Orange County Justice Fund (OCJF), an organization dedicated to providing transformative and effective legal representation to traditionally under-served populations in Orange County. CCI Students Create "The Dream Machine" An intrepid group of Creative and Cultural Industry (CCI) students in Wilkinson College has leaped headfirst into a project that promises to turn heads. "The Dream Machine is an interdisciplinary project that brings together all aspects of CCI," explained Dr. Patrick Fuery, who taught the fall 2022 Creative and Cultural Industries in Practice course, "to create an immersive experience that taps into alternative ways of thinking about the world." 2023 Parent Spring Summit Save the date! Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11, join us for several events, including the annual State of the University Address, presented by Daniele C. Struppa, Chapman Celebrates, tours, and parent programming to connect you to campus, resources, and the Chapman Community. Saturday (February 11), join us for a conversation with the Dean of Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Jennifer D. Keene and Wilkinson Career Manager Erin Berthon to learn more about the undergraduate experience and career resources available within Wilkinson to prepare your student for life after Chapman. Following the session, join the Escalette Permanent Art Collection for a guided art tour through Roosevelt Hall, home of Wilkinson College, featuring contemporary Native American artists in the student-curated art exhibition, WE WERE THEN, WE ARE NOW.
