Click here 11 August 2022Cr Matthew Blackmore, Mayor of Strathfield I was delighted to continue my Local School Visits this week with myself and the Deputy Mayor visiting both Strathfield South Primary School and my old high school Strathfield South High School. These visits are helping to create a better connection with Local Schools so we can work together for the benefit of the community. I was also honoured to present Marie Bashir Public School with a $500 book voucher in recognition of their contribution to our Donation Day. I would like to thank the students and their families for generously donating over 40 bags of much needed clothing and linen to Red Cross. Children and families of Marie Bashir Primary School have led by example, winning our Red Cross Donation Day competition by collecting over 40 bags of clothing and linen to donate to those in need! Mayor Blackmore visited the school this week to present them with a $500 book voucher for their library. In total, residents donated over 4,000kg of items, almost half of which will go onto be sold at Red Cross stores. Thank you and well done! Hands on History Talk Due to popular demand, a second local history talk regarding Strathfield's industrial past has been scheduled! The talk is part of the exhibition "Minding Our Business" which has been extended until 11 Sept. Bookings are essential. Hurry, the competition closes on Sunday 14 Aug. Celebrating Indian Independence Council celebrated Indian Independence Day this week, by raising the Indian flag. The Town Hall will also be lit up in the flag's colours for the week including Independence Day, 15 August. We extend our warmest regards to residents celebrating this occasion. Strathfield Massacre Memorial Join Councillors and staff as we remember the tragic events of 17 August 1991, The Strathfield Massacre. A wreath will be laid at the memorial tree outside Gloria Jeans at Strathfield Square. See Bluey at the Spring Festival! Are you excited to see everyone’s favourite Heelers Bluey and Bingo live on stage at the Strathfield Spring Festival? There will also be 3 meet and greet sessions but spots are limited and tickets are essential. Tickets will be available on Tuesday 23 August so keep an eye out! A big thank you to our local community for their consistent efforts to lend a helping hand. This year's Homelessness Appeal yielded a steady stream of donations every day! We received a total of 65 bags/boxes which have been distributed to those who need it most.
