I receive feedback at least 3 or 4 times a week from our community about illegal dumping and delays in collection. I have also heard concerns about overflowing bins which attract ibis birds spilling rubbish onto the streets before the bins are collected. I have asked Council to implement actions to mitigate these issues including:
I have recommended that the Director of Planning and Environment prepare and implement a plan to mitigate the issues identified above as soon as possible, and that the Domestic Waste Levey be used to fund additional resources, as appropriate. Council also saw the completion of the works to the footpaths and roadworks on Knight Street, Loftus Crescent and Station Street. Undoubtedly, the enhancements have significantly uplifted the area’s aesthetic appeal, featuring the addition of more trees and the establishment of safer sidewalks and kerbs. I had a wonderful time at the Craft and Cuppas get together last Wednesday. Many of the craft projects that were started this year are near complete. The group will be organising a Christmas afternoon tea at their December meeting. Details will be available on the website. Residents, you will be noticing Strathfield will be adorned with Christmas decorations over the next 2 weeks. We are pleased to announce that the nativity scene will be outside Council chambers as well as our beautiful Christmas trees at Strathfield Square, Strathfield Council Office, Homebush and Homebush West. Many of our residents celebrated Diwali this week. Diwali is also known as the Festival of Lights. In the very old Indian language, Sanskrit, Diwali (or Deepavali) means ‘row of lamps.’ People light lamps at Diwali to show that light is more powerful than darkness, and good is more powerful than evil. Diwali also celebrates new beginnings. So, to all who celebrated, may I on behalf of Strathfield Council wish you all a joyous and prosperous Diwali. May the divine blessings of Diwali bring happiness, peace and prosperity to all your family and friends. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with your ideas and questions.
