Whilst we have had to show restraint because times are tough right now, here is a summary of the big divisional wins in the 2024-25 budget:
-
Coomera Civic Hub: A review is underway to modify design to better align with the budget and Council’s guidelines for new buildings. This is as a result of recent weather events which highlight the need to be prepared and protect as best as possible facilities by reducing glass content etc. The $135m remains in the four year program, but a review of both Coomera and the proposed Ormeau Library is underway
-
Kerkin Road Adventure Parkland: We seem to have been talking about this parkland for about a decade – but it is about to become a reality. We have the highest number of young people in our community and the lowest amount of recreational space. This new district park will include skateboarding, bmx, picnic facilities and nature walks. Funding for delivery over the next two years approx. $13m
-
Coomera Sports Park: Funding is over two years ($8.5m) for a second full size AFL field and lights
-
Viney Park Coomera: The approximate $10m upgrade starts in July to provide additional capacity for sport, together with new clubhouse for Coomera Soccer ($2m from 23-24 budget) additional car parking, footpaths, playgrounds and amenities
-
Highland Reserve Upper Coomera: Path construction eastern side Highland Way Upper Coomera to support walking/cycling to school ($550,000)
-
Coomera Springs: $1.5m in infrastructure improvements around the Coomera Springs School with about 400m of new paths, ramps, bus stop upgrade and shelter
-
Footpath Old Coach Road Upper Coomera: From Reserve Road to Gannon west side to support walking/cycling. Funded last year and this year ($350,000)
-
Boardwalk Yaun Creek Upper Coomera: This was a project I proposed some years ago which fell away due to other construction in the area. It will provide a low level boardwalk across Yaun Creek from Godden, together with a walking track through Clydesdale Park providing access to schools/shops ($400,000)
-
$8.3m over four years has been earmarked to deliver on State-controlled roads high quality cycle, paths and transport links in partnership with the State Government
-
The Bloom Estate Coomera: Will see $680,000 plan the delivery of pathways in Jaiden, Carissa, Olearia, Bloom Avenue North, Bloom Avenue Central. Planning this year, construction next

|
-
Foxwell Road Coomera between Amity and Ragamuffin: $7.1m over two years to deliver shared path with kerb ramps, bus stop relocation, retaining walls and modification to services. Three stage project with planning and design this year and the first of three stages commencing 2025. A grant funding application has been submitted to the Cycle Network Local Government Grant funding program in an effort to fast track construction
-
Glenshee Street/Ridgemont Upper Coomera: $550,000 for construction of a shared path along Glenshee, Ridgemont, Sandhurst
-
Reconstruction of road pavement Jowett Street Coomera: Between Fortune and Yaun Street at $1.8m
-
$30m forward funding 2025-2028 for link road Coomera Town Centre
-
$4m for traffic signals Dreamworld Parkway/Beattie Road and Whitewater Way/Beattie Road
-
Learning Street/Foxwell intersection: Signals at $3.2m over two years to improve safety at curve. Bike lanes and pedestrian crossing facility to improve active travel connectivity
-
George Alexander Way Coomera: $11m to provide access to the new Coomera Hospital
-
Chic Drive Coomera: $3.5m for link between Creek Street and Old Pacific Highway to relieve congestion Creek Road/Foxwell Road

Jaiden Way & Emilia Street shared paths - update
After bringing the issue of lack of footpaths in Bloom Estate to the attention of Council Officers some time back, I’m very happy to finally see the design complete for shared paths Jaiden Way and Emilia Street. Current budget allocation is for FY2025-26 however I’m working with officers to explore opportunities to bring this forward.
It's such a shame it takes so very long to get projects into the four-year capital works program, however, I’ll continue to push to have this project brought forward. When the Estate was developed, the land development guidelines did not require footpaths in local streets and the developer could not therefore be required to install paths.
The guidelines have subsequently been improved and at development approval stage, conditions are applied to ensure footpaths are provided in access streets.

Jessica Drive bus shelter
A bus shelter at the Jessica Drive Upper Coomera stop on Reserve Road has been assessed and meets the criteria for installation. Technical assessment will now be required to determine any conflict with underground services.
The project will then be programmed for construction by City Officers but be assured of our awareness of the need to improve the standard of public transport infrastructure.

Modifying traffic signal operation
Following consultation with residents of Baldwin Living Sequana earlier this year, safety concerns were raised regarding conflict between pedestrians and drivers at the Cater Street/Tamborine Oxenford Road intersection. Department of Transport and Main Roads manage the intersection traffic signals so I sought their advice.
Main Roads found that pedestrian safety can be improved at the intersection by modifying the traffic signal operation and providing left turn pedestrian protection. Pedestrian protection gives pedestrians a 'head start' and opposing vehicles are held by a red light during the green walk signal. This is so pedestrians are visible on the crossing. Once the green walk has finished, opposing vehicles are no longer held by a red light and can then enter the intersection, however they are still required to give way to any opposing vehicles and pedestrians still on the crossing.
The changes have now been designed and are scheduled for installation in the next following weeks.

Street tree replacement
Street trees are so important to our city and we all enjoy the improvement they make, visually and in terms of cooling and privacy.
All new street tree planting will be conducted from Whole of City funds, rather than divisionally as used to be the case. So please continue to keep me informed about any trees which appear to be dying (sometimes due to grass clippings being placed around a tree base) and also regarding any future suggested planting locations.
You can call my office on 5581 6598 or email so that I can progress any issue or suggestion.

Dreamworld Parkway zebra crossing
Officers have advised the need to make modifications to improve safety for pedestrians at the pedestrian refuge on Dreamworld Parkway near Coomera State School.
The road markings have allegedly caused confusion regarding right of passage and there is a requirement for compliance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Wordy, I know, but the “bible” for road management that officers must comply with.
