Dear Residents,

Council is proudly supporting this year's Strathfield Youth Achievement Awards hosted by the Rotary Club of Strathfield. There are 9 different award categories which all celebrate the outstanding achievements of young people in our Strathfield community. You can nominate someone today by clicking here.

In other news, Council has recently installed 3 Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) in our 3 Town Centres. These AEDs are easy to operate and can be used in the case of an emergency, together with calling 000. You can hear more about them here.

As we head into the Easter long weekend, I'd like to remind everyone that double demerits will be in place on our roads. Please drive safely, stick to the speed limits and avoid distractions. Let's work together to ensure everyone gets to their destination and back home safely. Wishing you all a safe and happy Easter long weekend.

If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.bcai@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999.

Cr Benjamin Cai, Mayor of Strathfield

THROWBACK THURSDAY

Charles Maclurcan’s Radio Station 2CM

‘Don’t forget to wind up the cat and put out the clock.’

So ended every Sunday evening’s radio program from station, 2CM, broadcast from a Strathfield garage. Radio pioneer, Charles Maclurcan, lived at Namanula, 2 Agnes Street Strathfield. Two 24m high radio masts stood on vacant land next door. Maclurcan received the first broadcasting licence in Australia, signed by PM Billy Hughes in 1922. In 1923, actress Josie Melville sang from the studio, becoming Australia’s first female announcer. 2CM (Maclurcan’s initials) is the only Australian callsign marked ‘never to be reissued’ in honour of his pioneering contribution to radio.
