WORKING PAPER No. 14

Carbon Border Tax: How the CBAM could hold great potential for Australian Business

Border carbon taxes are in vogue, as the European Union’s trading partners fall sway to the “Brussels Effect”.

Soon the Australian government’s Carbon Leakage review will recommend whether the country should adopt a border carbon tax, or not.

In our latest Working Paper Dr Susan Stone sets out her reasoning for why the Australian government should implement a BCA, anchoring on its potential to galvanise significant economic potential through industrial standards upgrading and adoption of best-practice carbon accounting techniques.

As the world rapidly decarbonises, can Australia afford to fall behind the regulatory frontier?

Author: Dr Susan Stone is the Credit Union SA Chair of Economics at UniSA, undertaking research on economic issues pivotal to the State of South Australia.
