Share Your Thoughts on Physician Burdens with Doctors of BC

The burdens that physicians face in their working lives are numerous, and Doctors of BC has been engaging members on this topic since early 2019.

Doctors across the province have been managing significant challenges in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is important that Doctors of BC hear from members at this particular time.

From November 29 to December 10, we are asking physicians to share their feedback on our member engagement platform regarding physician burdens.

By gauging physician priorities and concerns, Doctors of BC can better advocate for members, and create relevant, actionable policy.

Discussions close on December 10.

If you have any questions, please email policyandplanning@doctorsofbc.ca

Peer to Peer Knowledge Sharing Recording and Slides

Thank you to all participants who attended our first Peer to Peer Knowledge Sharing Event on November 22nd. Special thank you to our three physician presenters who shared their learnings and insights on MSA-health authority engagement. You can find the webinar recording and presentation slides here.

Please find below key themes from the event:

  • Relationship Building: Building relationship between physicians, and with local and senior health authority leadership, is key to fostering a meaningful engagement. Collaboration with various stakeholders, including community, family practice and other providers such as public health nurses, is also important. Relationship building requires patience, trust and effort. Some learnings included engaging medical staff through meetings and different projects, and attending meetings regularly with local and senior health authority leadership (e.g., LMAC, HAMAC, etc).
  • Communication: Communication between physicians and local and senior health authority leadership, as well as other relevant stakeholders is critical to improving engagement. Some learnings included leveraging multiple channels to involve medical staff, utilizing various communication methods with different stakeholder groups, building consensus and a plan, and establishing clear expectations between stakeholders at the beginning of the engagement process.
  • Culture: Creating a culture where medical staff are working collaboratively with health authorities contribute to increased engagement. Some learnings included the importance of having medical staff feel that they are part of the planning process.
  • Patient Care: Prioritizing patient care needs and providing medical staff what they need to provide proper patient care is a focus of the engagement with health authorities.

If you have any questions, please contact your Engagement Partner.
