In honor of Día De Muertos (Day of the Dead). We welcome pictures of loved ones, friends, and pets. Stop by our office to view the altar on Thursday, November 2nd from 1-2pm and enjoy sweetbread! Native American Heritage Month November 1st - 30th, 2023 The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Heritage Month is also an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges. SLDL Limited Services Wednesday, November 8th and Thursday, November 9th SLDL and several CGU student services offices will be closed or provide limited services during these business days. Professional staff will not be in-office but may provide limited assistance while away. In the meantime, please contact the Dean of Students Office for immediate assistance. Veterans Day November 11, 2023 Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. Transgender Day of Remembrance November 20, 2023 Transgender Day of Remembrance is an opportunity for communities to come together and remember transgender people, gender-variant individuals, and those perceived to be transgender who have been victims of transphobic attacks and murders. We will take a moment to view the community altar, discuss the importance of Día De Muertos, design our own altars/sugar skulls, and enjoy sweet bread. kin*dle Donate for Ontario Reign Tickets November 13-30thGame Night | Friday, December 1st | 7PM November and December are well-known for their generous atmosphere. This month, we are partnering with the local Prison Library Project to donate any used or new books. The most prized books for the PLP are dictionaries, thesauruses, composition books, and G.E.D. prep materials. Also, feel free to donate any fiction, non-fiction, science fiction, or other genres. To receive your Ontario Reign Tickets bring your donations by the SLDL Office and register between November 13-30th. Join KGI's South Asian Association for a fun and festive time! Monthly SpotlightStudent SpotlightThis month, we're highlighting Veronika Ivanova. Veronika is a Fulbright scholar from Russia. She is a second-year student in a Master’s program in Organizational Behavior and evaluation. Veronika also holds an MS from the University of Pittsburgh in Rehabilitation Sciences. Her successfully defended scholarly paper on the utilization of rehabilitation services by immigrants from Eastern Europe served as a theoretical basis for the project between the U.S. State Department and American universities (with taught rehabilitation graduate programs) that looked into how cultural specifics affected rehabilitation of the members of that population.
