Throwback Thursday Captain Charles William Clanan Marr Captain Charles William Clanan Marr, from Rochester Street, Homebush, served as the commanding officer of the 1st Anzac Wireless Squadron in Mesopotamia (Iraq) during World War I. In 1917 he was awarded the Military Cross and in 1918 the Distinguished Service Order. He was promoted to major and twice mentioned in despatches. Marr returned home during mid-1918 and was elected to Federal Parliament as the Member for Parkes, which included Strathfield. He served from 1919-1929 and 1931-1943 and was knighted in 1934.
