14th October 2022A Message from the Head... ![]() Half term begins with one group of senior Gateways pupils already off enjoying the tropics of Barbados playing sport and with a second cohort of senior singers and instrumentalists about to depart for the not-so-tropical arrondissements of Paris. Readers can follow the @GwaysPE Twitter account for updates and photos of the sports tour and Mr Lenihan has promised lots of photos and videos of the Choir trip who will, amongst other activities, be performing on the main stage at Disneyland Paris next week! We can't wait to hear all about both trips after half term. ![]() Before the half term finished, the Prep School treated us to a show of their talents this morning. Huge congratulations go to all those who took part in a wide variety of acts including singing, drama, piano, dancing, acrobats, speed Rubik's cube genius, magic and comedy. Chef Wayne, Mrs Olbison and Nurse Diane were the judges and Mrs Prince was the Master of Ceremonies. We could all safely say at the end of the event that Gateways really does have Talent! Happy half term everyone ... see you on 31st October - spooky Halloween night! - Dr Tracy Johnson - ![]() Halloween 8!![]() The annual Halloween sleepover was reincarnated last night with 26 sixth formers and staff braving such horrors as ‘Jigsaw’ and ‘One Night Werewolf’ in the Sixth Form Centre until the wee small hours. The centre was transformed into a gothic house of horror as the students undertook various House challenges, including amazingly elaborate escape rooms and pumpkin carving competitions. Refreshments included pizza, mocktails and lots of treats! Sleep in the mausoleum was achieved around 2am; there were quite a few bleary eyes at breakfast this morning! As usual, this was a really enjoyable evening with a few scares and lots of fun which raised £210 for the Upper 6 nominated charity, Angels for Children, a local charity helping orphans in the Philippines. Thanks to all involved, especially Mr Crosby for his vision and participation and Wayne and Holroyd Howe for supplying such a lovely breakfast. - Mr Martin Davison - Sign up to AmazonSmile and raise money for the PFA![]() The Gateways Parent & Friends charity now has 67 Amazon accounts signed up to AmazonSmile. On average, each one is worth £10 per year to the charity, with Amazon donating 0.5% of all your purchases. So that’s over £600 per year towards Gateways PFA fundraising. We’d love to have more parents signed up to AmazonSmile, especially before Christmas shopping starts! Please also ask your friends and family to sign up if they have Amazon accounts. It only takes 2 mins to sign up, with three simple steps - see below for easy instructions . If we can get to 200 signed up Amazon accounts, we’d be able to collectively raise over £2,000 per year! Thank you for your continued support. - The Gateways Parents & Friends Committee - ![]() Pumpkin competition![]() Winter UniformPlease note that from the start of the next term (31st October) winter uniform should be worn instead of summer uniform.
