Cr John-Paul Baladi, Mayor of Strathfield

Dear Residents,

The Heart Foundation and Strathfield Council will be hosting a free information session on how to use an automated external defibrillator and how to provide basic life support care in emergency situations. I encourage all community groups to attend this free and valuable session in order to gain the skills and confidence to save lives. This event will take place in Strathfield Town Hall at 6pm on Wednesday 2 July. Please click here to register your attendance.

Have a green thumb but not a lot of space to plant your own fruit and veg? Sign up to our Community Garden located at Laker Reserve, Elva Street in Strathfield. It’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors, grow your own healthy food for very little cost and become involved in your community. Click here for more information and to submit your application form.

Finally, I’ll be hosting another Mayoral Street Meeting on Sunday 20 July from 10am – 1pm. Head over to the corner of Burlington Road and Rochester St in Homebush to provide your feedback or to discuss items of importance to our local area.

As always, if you have a local concern or idea you’d like to share, you can reach me on 0478 054 241 or at cr.jpbaladi@strathfield.nsw.gov.au.

The Mandemar Estate, Homebush West

The ‘139 ideal allotments’ of the Mandemar Estate were offered for sale during 1922 in ‘North Lidcombe’ within the Lidcombe (formerly Rookwood and later, Auburn) Council area. Advertised with the slogan: ‘A lot of inlay for a little outlay,’ ‘Mandemar Bungalows’ were constructed in Mandemar, Courallie and Telopea Avenues with almost half the estate settled at this time. By 1926 however, ratepayers were unhappy with the lack of services and unsuccessfully petitioned to join Homebush Council instead. In 1992 the borders between Auburn and Strathfield Councils were adjusted and these streets were incorporated into Strathfield Council’s LGA.
