Opportunities and ResourcesBecome a Local Engagement Officer this new year Are you connected to your community and have experience managing a team? The 2026 Census is an opportunity for you to support your community and earn extra income. The Australian Bureau of Statistics is hiring Local Engagement Officers to support a diverse range of people and communities to complete their Census form. From building relationships to answering questions at information sessions, it’s an opportunity to make sure key population groups are accurately represented in the Census.

Volunteering Queensland - Designing roles workshop Offered as part of Volunteering Queensland's Volunteer Management Essentials series, this online workshop will support you to design relevant and interesting roles for volunteers which contribute to your organisation’s purpose, goals and objectives. Learn why role design matters, explore different types of volunteer roles and discover what to include in a position description. Introduction to harm reduction in homelessness settings Q Shelter, in partnership with QuIHN, is offering a free online training session introducing the core ideas of harm reduction and how they can be applied to practical, everyday work in homelessness and housing. Learn the basics of common drugs and their effects, key principles of harm reduction, strategies for supporting recovery and how to respond when someone doesn’t want to stop using. This is a chance to learn from people who do this work every day and to build confidence in responding safely, respectfully and effectively when substance use is part of the picture. Play Pickleball for Free! Celebrate the new Thursday morning social pickleball sessions at Cornubia Park Sports Centre! Enjoy two hours of fun on indoor courts with plenty of parking. All skill levels are welcome and there’s even an allocated court for higher-level players if needed. Bring your paddle (limited paddles available), wear comfy clothes and shoes and don’t forget your water bottle! When: Thursday 29 January, 8:30am to 10:30am
Nature Smartphone Photography: bushwalking with a difference! Take pictures at photo points along an easy walking trail at beautiful Plunkett Conservation Park, Yarrabilba. All you need is your smartphone, enclosed footwear, a hat, water bottle and ideally long pants and long-sleeved shirt. Suitable for people of all ages who have the ability to walk bushwalking trails. Nutrition for perimenopause & menopause workshop Join Renee Bailey for an empowering, evidence-based workshop on nutrition during perimenopause and menopause. Discover what’s happening hormonally, explore common symptoms and learn practical strategies to support energy, mood, metabolism and bone health. The session concludes with 15 minutes of breathwork and meditation, led by Jyoti from Bodhi Bloom | Yoga, leaving you with simple, everyday tips to boost long-term wellbeing. Funding OpportunitiesApplications are now open for the Queensland Mental Health Commission’s Tertiary Transformation Grants. Grants of up to $250,000 are available to support innovative projects in Queensland’s tertiary sector, focusing on suicide prevention, alcohol and other drugs (AOD) workforce capability and reducing stigma. Eligible activities include evidence-based training, resources, and support for students and staff. Applications close: 12pm AEST, Friday 6 February 2026. Applications are now open for the Queensland Mental Health Commission’s Men and Boys Suicide Prevention Grants. Grants of $300,000 to $600,000 are available for initiatives that strengthen suicide prevention support, reduce risk factors and build community-led partnerships for men and boys in Queensland. Applicants are invited to attend an online briefing session on Friday 23 January, 10am to 11am. Applications close: 2pm AEST, Friday 6 February 2026. Applications are now open for Round 4 of Logan City Council’s Community Project Grants. This round supports youth projects that respond to community priorities and foster long-term outcomes. Project ideas can be found by visiting Community Project Grants. Projects must start after outcomes are advised (25 May 2026). Organisations working in partnership are encouraged to apply for funding up to $10,000. Applications close: Sunday 22 March 2026. We hope you find the information found in our e-newsletter useful.
