Junior School NoticesTERM 1 WEEK 7
From the Head of Junior SchoolFree Dress Day Last Friday Thank you to all students and staff who enjoyed our
first free dress day last Friday. The theme was "come dressed as something that matches the first letter of your name". There was a buzz in the Junior School as children and teachers tried to guess each other's costumes. The funds raised will go towards supporting two World Vision children, 13 year-old Josephine from Zambia and 12 year-old Margaret from Kenya.
JIGSSA Participation Swimming Carnivals The JIGSSA Participation Swimming Carnival for all students in Year 5 was held on Tuesday 14 March at Iona Presentation College.
The Years 4 and 6 carnivals were held today. Photos from today will be available next week. Our girls have certainly displayed the PLC values of Effort and Community when representing our school.
Year 4 OEPLast week, our Year 4 students had an amazing time on their Outdoor Education Programme at Lake Leschenaultia where they fully embraced the theme "Dip Your Toe in the Water". They developed their risk-taking skills and independence by trying new things and sleeping away from home in tents with a buddy. Everyone co-operated with each other to set up camp and supported their friends throughout.
The most popular activity was stand-up paddle boarding. Everyone enjoyed "falling in" and racing the other teams. The bush art jewellery was also a favourite and students learnt to saw, drill, and sand wood to make a beautiful eco-jewellery creation. We laughed loudly, made memories, and cemented lifelong friendships. The whole Year 4 cohort would like to thank Ms Jessica Smith and the OEP Department for this incredible experience that has brought us together and made us realise we can do anything! Along with tens of thousands of others, I have always been encouraged and inspired by the writings of Thomas Merton. Despite living as a hermit Trappist monk, Merton’s radical writings and social engagement were so disturbingly influential. He was on the CIA’s “Most Wanted” list for his outspokenness against the Vietnam War, his critical stance on nuclear weapons, on made-in-America racism, and his cry against capitalism’s empire-building by way of global violence.
