Junior School NoticesTerm 2 Week 4
Dear valued member of the PLC community, Welcome back to another edition of Junior School Notices. We have had an action-packed week in the Junior School, with many celebrations, events and a number of exciting personal achievements.
Mother’s Day CelebrationsI hope families had time to get together and enjoy each other’s company last weekend. I know many mothers enjoyed the beautiful breakfast last Friday at school and spending time with their daughter/s.
Kindergarten Mud-FunIn learning about plants and how they sustain life on earth, our Kindergarten class experimented what happens when water is added to dirt/soil. Students quickly realised their experiment created mud, and were very keen to get dirty and play. The girls thoroughly enjoyed fun, unstructured, active, outdoor play, and were particularly interested in the sensation of feeling the mud between their toes.
The Importance of ReadingI would like to encourage all our girls to read as much as possible. Reading regularly can help improve a child's cognitive skills, including their vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking abilities. It can also enhance their memory and concentration skills. Each morning, when many students arrive at the Junior School Library before classes, we will be encouraging them to work on their REN Reading target and complete set comprehension quizzes. We hope to track some fantastic improvements over the term.
IPSHA Performing Arts FestivalStudents, staff and parents enjoyed a wonderful show at Penhros College on Wednesday evening, as our Years 5 and Year 6 Deci-Belles performed at the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA) Performing Arts Festival. Students were accompanied by selected instrumentalists as they performed two pieces being; Scattered Islands in an Azure Sea by Dan Walker, and a special rendition of Fight Song by Rachel Platton fused with the traditional hymn Amazing Grace by John
Newton. The performances served powerful messages and were inspired by the College's values of integrity (honore), community, learning, and effort (labore). Thank you to all PLC Music Staff involved, along with Ms Hayley McDonald-Burns and Ms Lanny Sugiri, who directed and accompanied these performances.
Student Wellbeing at PLC - UR Strong ProgrammeIn the Junior School, we use the UR Strong Programme to assist our students to form strong, positive relationships with friends and peers. Some of the strategies we speak to our students about include, The four Friendship Facts: - No friendship or relationship is perfect
- Every
friendship is different
- Trust and respect are the two most important qualities in a friendship; and
- Friendships change and that’s ok.
Kind regards, Geraldine Drabble
