Updates on work to deliver new water supply, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure in Kingston.

Update on Oxford Street stormwater works

Over the last few months, crews from Wilson Contractors have been busy working at multiple points along Oxford Street, from installing new sections of the large-diameter stormwater pipe and other services, to trenching, sheet piling, and plenty more.

Wet conditions and storms this spring have slowed progress, but we’re pleased to share the section of stormwater pipe underneath lower Oxford Street (between Kent Street and the lakefront) is now complete.

You may have also noticed crews preparing to construct new culverts, footpaths, and driveway crossings along this stretch of road. And, with all works at the railway crossing done – it’s great to see Kingston Flyer operating again!

What's coming up next?

Crews are busy installing manholes at the outlet gallery down by the lake, while connecting associated pipework to the stormwater main nearby. They’ll also be starting to prepare kerbing along lower Oxford Street, and installing utilities too.

Work on the stormwater main will continue onto upper Oxford Street (from Kent Street towards Lakefield Close). Access remains restricted to this section of Oxford Street, and residents will need to continue to use the Dorset Street diversion until Christmas.

What to expect over Christmas

With the festive season just around the corner, crews are busy working to get as much as possible completed and out of the way in time for Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Come Friday 19 December, you can expect:

  • Lakefront outlet gallery works near completed with landscaping to follow after the Christmas break. Some work zones remain but will be fenced off and monitored over the break.
  • Surfacing will be laid down from Kent Street through to the lakefront for resident access. Footpaths and berms will be finished in early 2026.
  • Both lanes of traffic will be open at the Oxford/Kent Street intersection. Temporary speed limits will be in place.
  • Upper Oxford Street will be re-opened from Kent Street. Excavations will be backfilled and a temporary gravel surface installed for resident access. The Dorset Street diversion will remain in place for residents wishing to use it over the break.
  • Crews will monitor construction sites over the break, ensuring site fencing is secure and helping to control dust in town with the use of water carts.

Crews expect to restart work on Monday 5 January 2026.
